    Default Aylsham Navigation

You can read about this navigation here

    http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/aylsham-navigation.html

We are started at Horstead Mill. The round trip was about four very pleasant hours....

This is what is left after the fire described here...

    http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Watermills/horstead.html

    Another beautiful Norfolk waterway,

No other boats and very few people...

    A curious duck

    and some exotic sheep

The Bure Valley railway (15 in gauge)

    a fine old building

and a very nice golden yellow in the stubble

    our destination was Buxton Mill

which you can read about here

    http://www.norfolkmills.co.uk/Watermills/buxton.html

I love the history of these waterways and paddling them makes you hope you might see a wherry round the next corner... but no wherries here since 1912, when the locks were destroyed by the great flood...

Where we paddled is upstream from the famous tame Norfolk kingfishers... in the part of the River Bure not open to powered launches...

Next time we are going to explore further up stream from Buxton to Aylsham... here is the put-in for this part of the navigation... upstream of Buxton Mill

Hopefully we will make it to Aylsham... there are few disused locks to negotiate...

    Great blogg again Doug.
Now can`t wait to see if you make Aylesham, looking on Google Earth the other day after your last trip looked to be fairly green and narrow in places!

Great blog with detail. Lovely part of the world but don't mention Norfolk to 'Lakeland Pete'.

Great Blog with excellent photos! Particularly good to see because that's one of my favourite paddles ( easy to get to if time is short ). Funnily enough, I've never done Aylsham to Buxton, I'm not sure about access details at Aylsham Mill.
Aylsham to Ingworth is nice too, just have to be careful about Fly fishermen (or one in particular............)

That looks like a lovely bit of water. Thanks for sharing.

Ours was the marsh country, down by the river, within, as the river wound, twenty miles of the sea.

We stayed not far from Horstead Mill on holiday this year and your pics brought back great memories. We went on the Bure Valley Railway and visited Aylsham but I'd have much rather done it by canoe - looks very peaceful and scenic.

    Great blogg.
