    Default SoTP BIG MEETING

SotP BIG MEETING September 11th 12th 2010 at Ullswater

    Staring your very own
    :
    Magic Kelly
    Scotty dog
    Crow
    and others

With fun competitions, Demonstration , Music, Prizes, Burger van, Bar and lots more

    For the whole family

Camping by the waters edge at waterside farm.

If you interested in coming along, to this fun weekend, please let me know so we have some ideas of numbers. This is so I know how big the marquee is going to have to be and how many pitches on the camp site we need. The more people the bigger the discount we get. Please book though me not the camp-site or we will not get the discount, thanks.

I'm still looking for coaches to help as well as others to do demos (this could be anything that might be of interest). Any shops who would like to have kit there please let me know.
I also still need a few more prizes to give out.

    Thanks Pete

Well as I seem to be on the bill already, it looks like I'd better come. But I hope it doesn't put anyone off. Should I bring body armour?

And you'd better pm Scooty dogg, he'll need the 6 months to polish up his act.

Right, I'm going to try and get the weekend off! I'll not know for sure, till a lot nearer the time, so don't count me in yet

good luck and very well done...................apart from the "staring".......bit odd that....but Hey! what ever presses the pedals

Sorry I'll just slope off now shall I?

Anyway; which site have you gone for?
Is there an area we could use for firelighting demos etc?

    all the best

I thought that too, but I didn't want to say anything.

If we keep the fire jugglers near the lake, we should avoid trouble from the health and safety guys. And the burger van might be a bit redundant if we've got loads of bush chefs and firebox fiends present. But then again I'll be there too, so it'll save me taking so many pot noodles. Will we have enough trees for the hammock brigade? Do we need to start planting now? Will crablass be coming and will she bring her shark arm puppet? Just a few thoughts..

If needed, I can provide demo boats/kit. At this time can't guarantee exactly what, but nearer the time I am sure a wish list can be gathered. I also have a few customers of mine around the lake that hire out as well.

    Cheers

Maybe. Were away without the kids for a bit the week before then so kids may well be in tow. If we do come I'll ensure the puppet is bought along

I'm putting my name on the list and would encourage others to do the same. The more people listed as attending, the more interested manufacturers, shops etc will be. Otherwise you'll end up with a catch 22 of:

Not many people coming --> No point in shops etc bringing demo boats --> Not many people coming

Even if you're not 100% sure you can attend put your name down anyway. The event will gather speed and it'll be more worth coming when the time comes round.

I'm sure people like Endless River who have a good internet following could shift a fair few airbags and kneeling thwarts etc. Same with the boatropes man.
As well as just pure canoe stuff you could get associated industries on board. People like Dave Budd could maybe do knife making demos.

    Ideas for demo, retail, teaching:
    Boats
    Paddles
    Clothing
    Cags and drysuits
    Buoyancy aids etc
    Kelly kettles and fire boxes
    Tarps
    Knives
    Tilley hats
    Bushcrafty stuff
    The boatropes bloke
    Gorillapods
    Muckboots
    Trip planning advice
    Talks on trips
Lessons on navigating from moss on trees
    Fire by friction lessons

Get sponsorship from local brewery, butcher etc. Cheap meat for BBQ. Cheap beer.

How much space would there be to play with:
    Camping space?
    Communal space (marquee maybe)?
    Demo, retail and teaching space?

Yep thats the idea. We have a big camp site and so far I have sorted a marquee out for 100 people but it can go bigger. Camping space is large 300 + Demo space as big as we need.
Please add your name to the list if your coming

looks and Sounds good to me, it would be good to put some faces to names. Will need to confirm days off closer to time but seen as it's me who's in charge of that at work we should be ok.

    I'll be arriving Friday pm.

TISME - With big meets it can be useful to have an organisers thread that only you post to, and a general discussion thread. Stops the necessary info getting lost in the dross
Thanks for that idea sounds good. I will have to stop all my dross as well

Looking good here will be nice to meet a few more SOTP peeps.

Moi (plus swmbo and 2 kids)

I have not read the whole thread so forgive me if this has been covered. Any issues with 2 well behaved border collies coming along with us.

    Cheers

    Unhappy too fare away...

We would love to come, but my route planner says it is 750 km away from our doorstep

Too much for a nice weekend I'm afraid.

I have no doubt that it will be fun, we'll watch the pictures and read the story's afterwords with a bit jealousy.
