For up to date information and progress on this winter's improvement works on the River Medway, please keep an eye on www.allingtonlock.co.uk
The four main projects being undertaken are:
1. Refurbishment of Allington Sluice (navigation not affected)
2. New Landing stages and canoe portage facilities at Teston Lock and East Farleigh Lock. (portaging around these locks will be affected during construction)
3. Installation of Eldridges Lock combined canoe and fish pass (upstream and downstream river levels will be lowered at certain stages)
4. Replacement of Tonbridge Lock gate walkways, to allow easier portaging (works should take just one working week so little disruption)
Note: The maintenance team will also be lowering the odd river pen here and there for annual maintenance and inspection. These are lowered for just a few days at a time and are difficult to forecast as weather and river conditions dictate timings. Where possible I shall try and warn in advance.
