    Default Materials Suppliers

There is an existing sticky for Public Domain plans - could we Please have another for "Materials Suppliers".

Time and again the same questions crop up - in the format - Where do I get:

    Epoxy
    Timber
    Seat Cane
    Dacron
    Kevlar monofilament
    Clamps.

Might be nice to have most common answers in a single place.

    I agree!
I would recommend this company for expoxy supplies. Much cheaper than my chandlery and the delivery service was good too.

    Default Discounts on marine timber.

Robbins Timber in Bristol (mentioned above) have a couple of deals at the moment. They have 6mm Elite marine ply in 2500mm x 1200mm at £39 because it is slightly short on the width (not cheap, but cheaper than it was) and Sitka Spruce at about 40% off (and you can get 5mtr lengths).

Default Replacement Robertson Stainless Steel Screws

I lost a couple of screws when I replaced my NC Prospector gunwales and also found that some of the 1 1/4" screws were a bit short where the royalex was thicker. I wanted the replacement screws to match the existing ones, which were robertson head (square insert head). They work well and look good.

Square Screws UK were very helpful / accomodating and supplied me with smaller quantities of 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" replacement screws (they don't advertise these sizes) and driver bits.

    See: http://www.squarescrews.co.uk/

They even shipped them immediately !! Very very helpful.

Default Anyone used this supplier? Epoxy-resins.co.uk

As title - anyone got any experience of this supplier? Their boatbuilder/repair packs seem to make sense.

I've used uk epoxy on a couple of boats. Excellent stuff and a full range of re-inforcing and extending fillers, accelerators etc. A recent trawl through evilbay for epoxy resin and hardner kit prices turned up :-

West. 6kg for £103.35 (Composite Supplies)
    Own brand. 5kg for £138.98 (A.S.Composites)
Own brand. 6kg for £98.49 (Resin Shop)
    S.P. 3kg for £59.99 (GRP Supplies)
    by contrast
    U.K.Epoxy 7.5kg for 101.05 (U.K.Epoxy)

This is hardly an exhaustive review of the marketplace but is certainly food for thought.

    Default Southern Timber, Devon

A helpful friendly and reasonably priced timber merchant.

I have just acquired some pretty decent 'marine' ply at £11.50/sheet (third of the price of Robbins Elite!). Their pine comes in decent lengths up to 5m and they were happy for me to pick through for 'clean' lengths.

I have no info on their hardwoods, but the oak flooring boards I saw seemed to be decent quality.

    Default Bead and cove cutters

For anyone machining their own cedar strips, I found there is a shortage of suitable cutter suppliers in the UK. I discovered that Freud UK, will import them from the States if asked, for the bargain price of just under £ 30 for the pair. Top quality cutters with the option of 1/2 shank.

    Details....cutters 99-018 and 99-017

£135 + vat in total for my 15' stripper

Now I just need the hardwood for the gunnels and seats...

I found this place whilst trawling through the interweb, anyone had any dealings?
The Clear Cedar decking timbers come in any length you want. Only trouble is you would have to pick them up, delivery was by carrier and obviously expensive.
