Default Drakeholes (pic Heavy) or Sydneys Travels

    Hi all

well time for our second blogg, although we have been out a few times now, its mainly been the Sheffield canal which was getting a bit boring.

This time its Drakeholes i know its been blogged a lot but its the first stretch of water we have arrived at and had no idea what we were going to see / where we were going.

i believe it is the spirit of "Whats round the next bend" that really interests us with our canoeing.

And now for a few more images from the first leg, the plan was to travel from drakeholes down to hayton and back but we got a bit further before turning and lunching at hayton

it was just before the Retford and Worksop boating club that we realised we had a stowaway so in true time honoured tradition we made him walk the plank. Not really he is still in the canoe even after the car journey there and back. we have lovingly named him Sydney

We arrived at our morning brewstop by about 8 ish

we are now the proud owners of a british waterways service key but i think the missus got a shock when she went to use the loo

and even when she found the real one and cameback she said she had found herself wondering how she was going to sit on that lol

oh well enough shennanigans off we go again

    and for ye wildlife lovers

me in the back trying to steer

unfortunatley the missus wont allow any pics of her from this trip.

would you really want to camp here?

    lunch stop at Hayton

    on our way back

by this time we were both extremley ...... tired so pic taking was giving way to lets get back

    brewstop on way back

all in all a fantastic day out the weather was good though a bit cool on occasion.

we started at 6:15 from drakeholes and got back at 15:00 exhausted and muscle cramped to hell it was worth every bit of the pain.

and now we cant wait to do it again although next time we are contemplating camping at holcroft fisheries overnight then coming back.

Nice blogg and pictures, going through the tunnel takes you all the way out to West Stockwith and to the Trent, there are a few locks that way but a very nice paddle.
