    Whiteadder Pottering

    A beautiful morning, hot and no wind - so I just had to get out. Went up to Whiteadder Reservoir, just over 10 miles away.

    Meet a wee hare on the way up, it was still there when I came back so it maybe wasn't very well?

    Absolutely beautiful,

    loads of birds around, geese, oyster catchers, mallards, gulls, lapwing and so on.










    I passed an old broken down sheep fank.



    The peace was broken by a couple of big metal birds that roared over.

    Paddled down to the far end and came close to this structure,


    suddenly realising that it was a great big hole.


    I beat a hasty retreat and landed to have a look. I'm so glad I didn't get any closer in the boat it was huge!


    I then paddled back





    , past the Scottish Borders sailing/ watersports base.


    Watched some sheep getting rounded up,

    some fishermen having no luck


    and more birds.



    At the getout a fisherman came & said hello and we had a good conversation together, then back off home to greet my new Great Nephew who'd arrived for his 2nd visit - only 3 weeks old. A totally smashing day and all of 250 metres high up.

    It's a morning glory (or bell mouth) spillway. Well worth a look on google images for some trully frightening pictures. Didn't know we had one in Scotland.

    Very relaxing I needed that . With the stuff Iv'e seen you going over I never thought that Hole would give you much of problem .

    Looking down the dam I think the hole must've gone down more than 40 feet - even for me that's a wee bit much, quite unsettling as you approach it not realising what's there!

    I know - I phoned them about jobs in the autumn, and according to the boss chappy they were shutting every last bit of outdoor education down within the council...

    Going down the Spey in May with some pals, but could be up for a jaunt. I quite fancy the Dochart at some time though.

    Looks very peaceful,and great pics.Always assumed Whiteadder was a no go area.

    I presumed under the access code it should not be a problem. Folk on & around the loch were very friendly, used to sailing boats etc.

    Aye greytowel and I paddled the Dochart at the end of last year and there are some very nice rapids . Its worth going for two days and paddling the river Awe then catching the Dochart on the second day . Or 3 days and catching the Allan too
