I did my one star exam as an my introduction to open canoeing. Before it I had only had a few goes in hired canoes on the local loch. The one star course I did was over two 6 hour days and was pretty comprehensive but the lesson on the "J" stroke and trim were the things that made a huge difference. Once they were learned I could actually paddle where I wanted to go and not where the weather and water was taking me. After that another few hires convinced me I needed a canoe of my own.

That was less than two years ago so see how far the obsession can progress.

    Congratulations.

Guess I'll have to think about getting some training now. Bah, humbug! That was one good thing about the inflatable, no training required since no-one appears to have a syllabus.

    Can just picture it though:
Deflate one side cell and paddle to shore.
Deflate both side cells and paddle to shore.
Deflate all cells and swim to shore dragging the boat along by your teeth.

    Additional questions:
If you inflate your boat on a warm sunny day then come home in a chilly dawn, how bendy will your boat be?
Have you ever heard of John Boyd Dunlop?
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
