Default What Fabric and where can i order it

    Hi

new to the forum and itching to get on the water.
Ive sailed a lot but am loving the idea of sea kayaking.

Im going to build a skin over frame kayak to these plans,

But, i cant find a place to order the fabric and paint/doping material.

research suggests I get 8oz oxford weave fabric although ive also read that using polyester will expand/contract less in temperature changes.

Can anyone please advise on materials and paint?

    Thanks in advance

    Stu

If it helps I have used calico on a couple of coracles that I have built. Also a friends old lorry has a wooden cab roof that is covered in heavy calico.
For waterproofing the lorry has 3 coats of white paint, one coracle has 3 coats of black bitumen and the other has 2 coats of car underseal. All seem to work but the black bitumen looks like it would need repainting after a couple of years. However on a kayak I doubt that you would want a mat black finish.
The white paint (gloss) does seem to hold up well and may be suitable.
There ara a few suppliers of calico on the web. The last lot I bought came from ebay.

Hope this is of some help.
    Steve
