    Default dark dark canoes

When I was last at the family pile, me dad gave me one of the pictures he's had on the wall since I was a yooff (and that's a while ago). I've always loved this picture, but once I brought it home I realised it badly needed cleaning as the years of grime had built up. Anna tried a wee corner with that picture restorers favourite - spittle and a cotton bud (gently, gently, oil paints only), and after a bit of effort the original appeared safely.

It's so good to have it up on the wall, it's by a rather eccentric Liverpool artist George Jensen and is titled Orpheus. Spot the deer (two).

Anyone else have interesting pictures around?

No interesting pics in my pile, but that really is a lovely earthy picture with the canoes blending in with nature. Nice

I found this the other day while clearing up a seldom used room, it's completely made of wood with no paint or colour added. You can just make out a boat near the bottom of the picture.
    Sorry, not the best photo.

You'll kick yourself - top left amongst the trees and it's bigger!

I really do like that picture. You must be very happy to have such a nice piece of work.

At my great grandfather's homestead was a painting, origin unknown, showing a lakeshore beach below bluffs - a place on Crooked Lake I'm familiar with - painted some time in the 19th century - showing a wigiwam and two birchbark canoes drawn up. I've often wondered what's become of it.
    The perfect canoe -

Is it just us or does this picture also contain several faces?Look on the shoreline just in front of the large tree on the right, looks rather like an easter island statue face ,also at the rear of the same tree, there' another. Also at the top of the picture, depending on the light there's a small figure!(Eurydice ?)Greetings from a Frosty Slovenia.Slo paddler.

    Slo,

I found your 'faces' easier than the two deer! Lovely atmospheric picture.

    ZXC,

That's a cracker too - wood and no paint? Very well done.

    Thanks, I found it myself

Alastair: Sorry, I forgot to say that's a nice painting you've got.
Is the title of it "dark dark canoes" or is that what you came up with?

No the title appears to be Orpheus.

Also the faces don't appear to be there in the original, but I'll keep looking.

My dad's got another of his which is very weird, full of nymphs with no clothing wound around undergrowth, very different altogether.
