    Default Hello from Kent

I have wandered over from the bushcraft forum

I used to have a kayak (sorry) this was nearly 30 years ago
4 friends hired a mould & built 5 - the 1st one wasnt the best.

So now you have to buy a canoe! It's a rule on this forum.

Welcome to SOTP though from a fellow Kentish Man.

Ours was the marsh country, down by the river, within, as the river wound, twenty miles of the sea.

    Hi Chopper

Great to hear you're now afloat . I hope you've had the boats out already. .Slowly we seem to be gathering members from Kent. Sooner or later we'll have to get a meet going.

Definatly up for a meet soon, we took them to Leybourne lakes on Saturday, fought the wind but had a good time, going back there this weekend if the weather is ok, and then its Yalding the weekend after.

We are looking for a riverside camping area, and have been told of one upstream from Sluice weir lock, have you heard of it / seen it?

I have to go as I am putting a thread together following our first day out.

Can't say that I have. I've paddled up only as far as Oak Weir, the one after Sluice, so it could be beyond that. It is very rural between there and Tonbridge.

Be interested to know about it if you find it. You might be interested in this site from Microsoft, which has satelite imagery covering the whole Medway in great detail. Maybe you can see it from there .

(to get the sat. imaging look for the "aerial" button just above the arrow tool - it's not that obvious, at least not to me! ).

The place we are looking for is called the "Meadowes" by the locals, I was told of it by a lady in one of the marinas and she said that it was near Oak Weir.
If the weather is Ok this weekend I think that we will be at Yalding rather than Leybourne as we had planned as you know its very open and last weekend it was a bit of a problem with the wind, thanks for the link, I will have a good look at it later.
