    Default Name that canoe!

Ok so I've only got to the 'marking out of the plywood stage' but already people are asking me what I'm going to call it.
    We've got 4 names so far -
Titanic - (it couldn't happen twice!)
Queequeg - Captain Ahabs harpooner from Moby Dick, who wanted to be buried in a canoe like his fellow harpooners from Nantucket. Not sure If I want to be buried in mine, but building it might kill me!
Shirley - A friend of mine recommended this as the only inanimate object he ever named, an old bedford van with a knackered diff he sold to some mug and then cleared off to Italy!
Dreamboat - Which kinda speaks for itself really!
Anyone got any better / funnier / cleverer suggestions?
I'm all ears said the Ferengi to the Vulcan.

Never been one for naming canoes, not sure why. Only one of my canoes has a name, and it had the name before I got the canoe. My 17 foot Wenonah Jensen is named "Ulle," which I always thought was a female name, but since have learned it is the name of the Norse god of winter, skiing, death, and hunting.
    The perfect canoe -

My boats were renamed on a trip a few weeks ago. The Pack became the The Bucket and the SP3 is The Barge.

Sat beside The Puncture and The Leak(our inflatables) it's a right motley looking fleet.
Picture yourself in a boat on a river,

Got it! My French / italian/ gibberish speaking work colleague and I had roughly (Very roughly!) translated Pas de deux Rhone as 'Dance River', which I thought might have the makings of a name in there somewhere?

    "Shallow Draughts"

It might be a bit too subtle

there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again."

Yes, but only if the canoe makes a Dave noise, cos herons are called Frank because they call "Frank". I suppose I should call my canoe Splosh!

Hi im new to this but Kevin seems as good a name as any

  38. Default

    Chris H,
being new is definitely not a sin - but not posting in the Introductions section could be! You're welcome and jumping in is always fun, but we also like to know a bit about each other, our canoeing wants and the other touchy-feely stuff!

Umm... Kevin does sound like the sort of canoe that would wear an Umbro England shirt - in the middle of winter!

Mary! How about 'Proud Mary' after the riverboat queen from a 'Creedence Clearwater Revival' song? Worth thinking about. Cheers.
