Fed by Lowswater and Buttermere. Not a long paddle end to end but interesting nonetheless. Can be very choppy at times but with little wind, can be calm but always an interesting paddle. Hardly anyone paddles here, same as Buttermere. If a strong wind is blowing toward the outlet or it's been raining heavily for several days, the outlet is the last place you want to be anywhere near.

The Cocker drains this water and a put-in is not far downstream from the out let. So miss the fish ladders if you want to live.

Lots of small car parks but only a few near the shore, so get the map out and choose before you set off.

    Stunning scenery and very quiet.

A nice quiet lake thats got some great views.

Would highly recommend it, and definitely support TGB's comment about avoiding the weir and fish traps at the entrance to the Cocker.

Launch fee still 4 per day (30 per year).

Launch from NY167177 was okay for a two person carry (Venture Ranger 16, circa 30+kg).
