Smile Biggish Meet 2020 - floating an idea?

Cardington Slalom Course, situated in Priory Country Park, Bedford.

    See ... http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/courses/cardington.htm

    Plus Points ...
Lovely park to camp in, caravans & motorhomes allowed
Get to play with an immense lego kit
Safe canoeing fun on a course we build ourselves
Local wildlife ... otters, kingfishers, foxes (secure food containers are good), etc. etc.
Local supermarkets, Beefeater in walking distance ...
Circular river paddles, or there and backs, to pub/whatever
Inexpensive if we have enough peeps tagging in ... say if 40 folks, averaging 2/tent, including 2 portaloos, cost would be ~ 16 each for the weekend. Would involve folks pre-booking to ensure costs are covered rather than we just turn up on the weekend and some don't.
It would be the most southerly Big(gish) Meet to date.

    Negative Points ...
Get to play with an immense lego kit - we build & take down the course - takes time and effort ... the more folks helping the easier it is to do.
Cars can't stay on the camping field during the day, need moving a shortish distance to the entrance car-park (9:00AM-7:00PM)
Can't think of any others :-)

We went to play last weekend, I'll post some pics up later ... thoughts?

    I'd be up for that.
"Oh, Eeyore, you are wet!" said Piglet, feeling him.Eeyore shook himself, and asked somebody to explain to Piglet what happened when you had been inside a river for quite a long time.

Thanks for that. I've never paid attention to the Calendar on the site before. Now I look at it, however, I can't see any entries in it at all. Should I be able to see something under the date 17/18 August? Because currently the whole year appears blank for me so far as I can see. Perhaps I need to be a (paying?) contributing member of the site to see/use the calendar? Please forgive my ignorance. I knew that use of the classifieds was a perk for members but I wasn't aware there is more! (That is if my guess is right.)
    Great photos by the way.

Thanks Ian, I wasn't meaning a Calendar here on the Site, just that the 2019 Biggish Meet is already in place in August ... I am going and it is on my calendar (on the wall in our kitchen).

2020 SotP Big/Biggish Meet is now provisionally booked with Cardington Artificial White Water (Slalom) Course for w/e 22/23 Aug 2020

New positive to note ... the following w/e is booked for a Slalom Event ... so we can probably leave the Lego in-situ

Been there a few times for the Interclub slalom event. Dont forget there is only one toilet which is by the carpark and was of the French auto toilet style. If it has not been vandalised. There is a pub-restaurant which is within walking distance. The carpark is often invaded by travellers which is why at the interclubs they always have security keeping an eye out

If you look closely, Potty has included portaloos in his original post.

I'll start a "Who is coming" list for 2020 shortly after we've been to the Biggish Meet 2019

Best you 'Ink me in' for this one Mike!..as it's just perfect advance notice for me! ....

I unfortunately have to book my time off/holiday time off a year in advance to get what I'm after. So,in this case your advance notice works just fine for me!

I had hoped to make it to this years Big Meet with Jon & Jules (because they always put on a good sow) Having had to surmise this years dates, by those gone so far before.. and by doing do, I
somehow managed to overshoot this years meet by 5 days!

Sorry you won't make it to Barrow this year Mark

Unofficial "Who's coming list" for the SotP Cardington Biggish Meet w/e 22/23 Aug, 2020. Of course most folks will be turning up Fri 21st Aug and if some folks would like to play beyond Sun/Mon we might not have to disassemble the Lego kit

Copy this bit below onto your reply if you anticipate tagging in and tag yourself in ... I'll copy it all over to an official "This is Happening" thread later
