    Default Hi from Holland

    Hi y'all,

I'm Nieneke, from Holland, new here at SotP and I'm building a canoe. Did a lot of research, but I'm a little stuck at the moment. Maybe there are some builders here who could help with some of them :-) You can follow my progress at instagram.com/nienekeskano if you like. I'm also very curious about your paddling stories!

    Hello and Welcome!

We have a few members in the Netherlands, I'm sure some will pop along to say hi too.

Feel free to ask questions in the Self-build section of the forum, they're very helpful in there.

    hi nieneke, welcome to sotp!
there's a member here, paddler.nl, who also lives in the netherlands and builds her own canoes. i haven't seen her posting in a while but she might be around, or you could drop her a personal message (after you reach the minimum required post count).

    Hi Nienke,

Welcome to SOTP from another dutch member.
I built my own wooden canoe recently but that was a wood-canvas-ish kind of build and not with the lapstrake way of building as you are doing. Can't be helpful with that, unless you have questions about common techniques as steambending wood for the stems and gunwales (which is the only thing the two building methods have in common?).

In the Netherlands we also have the "houtbouwers gilde" (wood builders guild), of which Valerie aka "paddler.nl" (mentioned by blowlander) is also a member. I don't see any lapstrake canoes on their web pages but they are a bunch of people that are very handy with wood and canoe building. Maybe they can be of assistance if you drop them a note: https://www.hbg.name/index.php/contact

    Have fun with the build.

    Erik.

    Hi Erik,

Thank you very much for your information :-) Really nice of you. I will take a look on that platform also!

Did you share your canoe somewhere?

My build is documented here: http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/for...ooooooow-build
    And here: https://albums.2qd.nl/Kano/Unity_bouw/index.html
Being my first build, it was very educational
