    Default New Kayaker in Northampton

    Hi,

Just a quick introduction; my name is Andy and I have just recently taken up kayaking with my 17yo son. We've both completed our British Canoeing 1 Star Course, and will soon take our 2 Star Course (I don't fancy hitting the water without some form of formal training behind me), and am keen to start getting on the waters around Northamptonshire.

We've both recently purchased the Dagger Katana kayak (10.4 ft), with some of the kit and kaboodle to go along with it (buoyancy kit, spray deck, etc.) and are now trying to find the best places to park the car and get out on the River Nene.

Can anyone give any recommendations? Just looking for touring currently, not jumping straight into the rapid/white water stuff quite yet ^_^

Welcome, I am not familiar with your area but the following 2 sites are the next best thing to going out with people from here.

https://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/ - Great overall description of the routes and the river

http://www.paddlepoints.net/PaddlePoints.php - amazing map with user added routes including parking info and user fed hazard makers

    Hello and Welcome!

What Ellery said really, particularly Paddle Points: http://www.paddlepoints.net/PaddlePo...on=Northampton

There are also lots of blogs on the Nene, so try searching that section too, and there are a fair few local paddlers too.

Starting out you’ll get a lot of good advice over on FB there is a group called Slightly white water.
You mention WW is on the cards this is great place to get advice also find local paddling buddies and meets,

They will have a lot of members that have started out on touring Rivers and built up experience..
