Default Dove Tour 16th-17th March 2019

Quick plug for the Dove Tour annual(ish) event.

Information and details on the Burton Canoe Club website but here is some cut & paste info anyway...

Access to this river is restricted to one weekend each year and offers an experience never to be forgotten, to any paddler making the trip for the first time. The overall trip is 11 miles, with lunch normally taken after 5 miles at the 1st weir. Water is Grade 1 to 1st weir, then Grade 1 - 2 there after. All weirs portagable. Please check with organiser or briefing on the day

Paddlers should arrive at the start, Aston Bridge A515 near Sudbury for 8-30 to 9am, to allow sufficient time to ferry drivers and their vehicles to the finish for the Tour to start at approx 10am. River briefing at 9.45am

Cost 5 Burton Canoe Club Members 4
(fee includes cost of transport back from finish parking)
I know self and a few local peeps have been chatting about popping along for this, so thought I'd add a thread in case it's of interest.

    Cheers
    Jon

I hope to make it. Is there a restriction on numbers, or pre pay, or just rock up?

Answered my own questions by going on their web site.

Hi Ellery. I would hate you to think I had ignored your post. I have come to the conclusion, in my comfortable old age, that assistance in shuttling is essential, but sharing long distance trips rarely works out well for me. So if I go, it will be alone, using the club shuttle for a fiver. Hope to see you there, but very weather dependant.

We are going on the Sunday too; Mike (25272527) and I are going to tandem in his boat so expecting a wet experience at the weirs. Apache George and hopefully Smudger in solos.
    See you there.

Choices choices choices, have friends attending both days, so current plan is to kinda see what the forecast is like each day, and if both days ok, do the better day tandem with Jewels and the other one solo....

Keeping an eye on the weather forecast and Burton Canoe Clubs website, but Sunday participation is looking to be our favoured option.... but with a number of storms around the place it's a bit of "wait and seeing". Watching the F1 in front a nice warm fire has a certain appeal...

Just received an email from the tour organisers:

Dove Tour is CANCELLED for both days. This due to high water levels, inaccessible egress point at finish, high winds forecast for Saturday, and possible overnight rain Friday into Saturday.
One weir is blocked by trees with another likely to have a nasty stopper and tow-back until water level falls below certain point.

Thanks Ellery - the same message is also posted on their website.

Shame, but the forecast was looking at for tomorrow had gusts of 72km/hr so not much fun!.

Multiple reasons ... high wind forecast, flooding, tree blockages, retentive stopper on one weir, problems with get-out. A shame, but a really good call by the BCC organisers
