Cool 23rd February 7th Annual Xmas Idle .....yep you read it right

So the weather wiped us out first time round ……………..so aiming for a re-match.
The 7th Annual Xmas Idle will be held on …..er …….23rd February

It will be over the favoured route starting at Old London Rd West Drayton and Ending at Chainbridge lane. A comfortable 10 ish miles downhill.
Under normal conditions this is an easy river for anyone comfortable in moving water.
Please note there are 3 tiny weirs to negotiate and a slightly larger one at Hallcroft which can be portaged if you don't like the look of it.
water levels will be monitored and we will move the put in to Retford if too high. We will aim for an early start time and hopefully on the water for about 10am to complete before it gets dark so meet at the put in for 9am

This trip comes with bacon butties fitted as standard, a veggie option will be provided, but let me know
Please be on the lookout for the bl*@dy penguin ......he sneaked by security last time.
Camping may be available approx. a mile from the put in............this was generously made available last year by one of the Beggars, hopefully I will be able to confirm one way or the other in the near future.

Santa Hats and/or elf suits and/or decorations and/or Bloody Penguins are compulsory
Otherwise how will we know its Christmas

This post code will take you to Old London Rd DN22 8ED ........about 1/2 mile from the put in.

Apologies for the delay in replying. You're welcome to join us.
There will be plenty of cars for shuttling, as for security, we've never had an issue in the last 7 years.

Can anyone advise me please, is this river suitable for a reasonable delicate composite or do I need to bring my old indestructible bucket? Ta!

There are a couple of small weirs which should be okay to shoot. However there is one rocky stretch which would not be suitable for a composite - this is portageable though.

Sue, there's a blog here http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/for...Idle-Xmas-trip with some pictures that shows the 'interesting' bits. The more intrepid will run them, others, like me, will portage.

    99%, yes to composite.

    This is the only bit that is "rocky";

Otherwise, just a few huge waterfalls like this:

I've paddled it in a 16ft 4mm ply /stitch and glass taped joints and only portaged round the one 'rocky'bit

Thanks for the advice. I'll leave the bucket at home.
Final question .................. is anyone planning on finding a local pub to watch the rugby afterwards? Any recommendations?

    See you all tomorrow

Loads of good pubs round there Sue, we'll ask one of the locals for a recommendation

    Any recommendations?
    England win?

Have the rugger set to record, but happy to hang around to watch and maybe partake of a spot of grub (subject to bow paddler preferences too)

Aiming to get dropped off in the morning, so will probably be there 9.30 towards 10.00ish.... just letting you all know so as not to delay any shuttling plans.
