Red face What a great forum!

    Hi,
Iím Bill and based in Cheshire. Iím new to paddling, although Iíve knocked around in boats for years and love any excuse for being on or in water. Iíve always wanted a canoe, but mountaineering took up all my spare time. Having now trashed my knees, canoeing is my new escape and chance to see a bit of the wildlife and wilderness, and Iím loving it!! Canít wait to do some multi-day trips and a bit of wild camping.

Iím really impressed by how friendly people are on the forum, and how non-paddlers canít help but smile when you paddle past (even a few of the fishermen, if youíre polite!). I hope to meet up with some of my fellow paddlers when I get a bit more organised.

    Hi,

It's been a while since I've posted here, but wanted to say welcome anyway. I've found the same thing on this forum - great people, and a nice community "vibe" to the place.

    Happy paddling.

    Hello and Welcome!

Clearly you've already found "the song"!

Many of us have also spent time in the hills, though saying "mountaineering" is stretching it for me these days! The two go together perfectly, and paddling along a remote Scottish loch to a wild camp, followed by the ascent of a remote hill, all with the luxury of things like spacious tents, fireboxes, tarps, chairs and, of course, plenty of "ballast" (red, white or rose), things you can't carry when backpacking.

All down to the iron fist of our beloved benevolent master, Mr Magikelly.

Welcome along to the best forum on the internet, probably.

Welcome. We credit the forum friendliness to the enforced beatings for any deviation from the party line

Thanks for the words of welcome, although I didn’t know that the “paddling” involved the beating variety!

    Welcome Bill.

I live in Lancashire and have an active group called the Wobbly Water Group on Facebook if you venture there.

I hope to see you around on the water.

The gang on here are friendly and will always stop for a chat, especially if there is a brew in the offing.

    Happy paddling and new year.

Thanks Doug. You have some nice paddling up in Lancs & the Lakes only a short hop, so hope to be up your way soon. Pleased to note that I’m not the only one obsessed with brewing up on the water!

Don’t worry, Chris, not easily put off! And I’ve just invested in a new cag which will need testing!

Not only are they friendly, but they are also seriously knowledgeable...if a bit geeky at times. No questions will be scorned but are you ready to deal with the degree of detail and minutiae does guys can give you? They, admittedly, are happy to explain without jargon.

Welcome Bill, enjoy the water...but I hope that you haven't entirely given up on the hills. Mal said it all, it is all complementary!
