Default 11 Cities tour by sailing canoe

I was dreaming where to go, to places far away. Then, a sunrise on the way up to work made me see it is beautiful right here. Instead of visiting the Danish South Sea, Loire, Elbe, or Norfolk Broads, Friesland is where I stayed. Other places will have to wait. So, during the autumn holiday week, I did the 11 cities tour by sailing canoe. The 11 cities tour is a rather famous tour in the Netherlands, normally it is done skating on the ice. But with a lack of good ice lately it is done in many forms, now including the sailing canoe. It is a 200 kilometer route over the canals and lakes of Friesland, passing through 11 cities. I didn't do the exact official route, but more of an alternative 11 cities, diverted via two hotel stops along the way. The route was: Dokkum - Bartlehiem - Franeker - Harlingen - Bolsward - Galamadammen - Heeg - Langweer - Akkrum - Wijde Ie - Leeuwarden - Dokkum It was 200 kilometers, done in 7 days, which included a rest day. Under way there were wild camps, but also stops at two hotels (Galamadammen and Ie Sicht).

A spreadsheet of what I carry can be found here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...)

And thanks to the man who handed me a cup of coffee, and the three youths who gave me a cup of tea, I really needed it!

Good effort! A proper adventure, yet close to home.

And possibly the first "selfie in the bath" that SOTP has seen!

Cool film! its interesting to see your thoughts during sailing: unpredictable winds, will the travel plans work out, keeps the wheather up, will you be safe the next stretch, ideas and improvement of your gear and the boat, when I am out alone its just the same things that occupy my mind. To me it feels great to be occupied with those simple things, elementary and pure. How to use what nature throws at you and still complete your journey. By the way; You got some great sky's on film, and I am quit impressed with the distances you padeled with a headwind, that takes some doing.
