As Trig's links explain, there are some restrictions in certain areas during the busy months, but there's plenty else to go at.

And you can still camp on the islands on Loch Lomond, for the moment. I can see them being added the next time the area is extended.

Some are, which is why I think they will be added. Some are quiet all year round but usually because you can't land bigger boats on them. They are becoming busier as the ban forces more people to seek them out.

None of the Loch Lomond ones, at the moment but I think the Loch Ard one is. My post is a bit misleading but if you read my earlier post I say they are excluded but I can see them being added.

when I was replying, “some are” I was answering the question about if they are crowded in summer.

I was talking with the Rangers a couple of months back after a drive/cycle around Lochearnhead. The number of loch shore campers out from Glasgow was horrendous. The rangers were fairly patient and just got folk to call up on 'The App' and book their pitch (sorry 'Permit'). We'd cycled around the loch in the time it took the rangers to patrol a quarter of the loch.

The main areas they were concerned about were those directly accessible by folks in cars - If they couldn't walk to the spot from where they had parked their van they didn't worry (and folk didn't carry gear that far either;-).

They also said that on Loch Lomond they weren't too worried about the islands because the larger boats required registration, and if they had the [motor] boat number ... consequences...

It is noticeable that the camping zone is only 100-200m from shore. Plus the zone stops just a little north of Rowardennan.

If you are (well) out of sight, and are clean and tidy (including the cutting/burning wood limitations), then things should be OK.

Finally the season is coming to an end ...

The Loch Ard island is covered under the camping Mgt zone.
    Cheers,
