Cool Hallowscreen....The SOTP Video Competition Final 2nd-5th Nov.

    The conversation went like this
    Cankay........Halloween?
    Maybren......Yep?
    Cankay.........Film festival?
    Mayobren......Yep?
    Cankay..........Di & Jax place?
    Mayobren.......Yep?
    Cankay..........lets do it!
    Mayobren ......go on then

And so, on the weekend immediately after Halloween there will be a paddle/camp/Film festival held at West Drayton Nottinghamshire 1/2 a mile from the start of the classic Idle.
Camping will be available from Friday the 2nd until Monday 5th generously provided by Di & Jax.
This is a green field site so facilities will be very basic but a portaloo will be provided.
On the Saturday we will paddle the classic Idle from London Rd. to Mattersley. and and we are working on suggestions for the Sunday, but there are some other stretches of the Idle worth doing as well as the Chesterfield Canal and rivers Maun, Meaden and Poulter (although these are level sensitive).
On the Saturday night we will hold a screening of the finalists in the SOTP video competition........and those attending will select the overall winner.
There will be popcorn (can you get bacon flavoured popcorn?) and no doubt other victuals available.

I will post more details ..........when I know them, but the date is fixed.
I look forward to seeing you there.............and.......action!
Forgot to mention you are welcome to fancydress yourself or your boat..........horror and film being the theme

If you would like to enter the video competition the link is here http://www.songofthepaddle.co.uk/for...n?goto=newpost

    Yo Bren,

    I've a projector & screen if needed.

Also know someone with access to a nice big Scouty eating shelter if weather looking a tad iffy close to the time - but does need a few bodies (preferably alive) to help put it up/take down. Also have a nice big trailer to haul things around in :-).

OI! I didn't know what On Golden Pond reference was all about! So I googled it, and found out my alter ego, Henry Fonda, played a cantankerous retiree.

    Very apt!!!

I've got some wonderful cardamom beer, which (unless I drink it all) will be served warm at Hallcroft.

Would have loved to make this one but unfortunately I’m staying in a yurt near Buxton that weekend.

    Brother Bren,
Having read this post right from the outset, I'm still a little unsure if this is meant to be the 'Official' Halloween meet or just something afterwards? -I can't work it out!

I have a whole week booked off 29th Oct- 5th Nov 2018 to squeeze in both 'Paddle - Ween 18' and the fireworks afloat at Windsor once again this year... if Fran allows me.

Being prepped very much now for either another 'Halloween-on-the-Nene' or prior to that, a late summer African Safari themed Paddle and overnight stop, where all paddlers will need to dress appropriately...as there might even be prizes!

    Whatever, let me know.....

If it ain't Halloween this year, then I don't half fancy a Mexican Day of the Dead Paddle! (In advance!)

    Pics. to follow...

I view this as this year's main Halloween event. Therefore I will be attending wearing suitable accessories. If I'm the only one dressed as such, you can all laugh and point. As usual...

Not that I would be against another, mind! Suspect it is likely to clash with the fireworks though.

Sort of Halloween paddle, combined with a number of other things...

Including but not limited to: The ladies Jax and Di have been inviting us to camp on their land a while, Bren's been running the vid comp for years, and the idea of a live showing has been appealing for a while. We've just been to Church, and did Barrow last year. The Idle is a cracking little river.

All of which congealed around a Hallowscreen weekend of optional paddling, vids, music, food and scary stuff.

Suspect things with be fleshed out a bit more once we're back from Dunswimmin' nr. Dublin.

I seem to remember last time Di and Jax were kind enough to offer camping land a do was arranged and only Muggins here turned up!!!

Good to see fancy/ridiculous dress is encouraged. I'll start looking for a Spam outfit now....

    Jon,
Please now add my nom de guerre to the above list, s'il vous plait!

    Merci, from MB

    David,
I'm sure that wherever you park your van.... you can sleep in it! Wherever I lay my hat, improvise a shelter, or once again burn some beans.....is my home, and I'm happy with that!

Jax and Di are fine with Vans and Dogs, the field can get a bit damp but shouldn't be an issue this year.
