    Cool SOTP Video Competition

The SOTP Video Competition is now open

This year the competition is a bit different.
As usual entries can be made here, we will also accept video entries from the facebook group.
The SOTP film academy will select their favourite video's (once I've dusted them off) and the winners will be chosen by you!

Here comes the different bit........... this year the final vote will take place at a screening of all the finalists films at a weekend paddle/camp/film festival type event. The weekend has the working title of The SOTP Hallowscreen Doo which will be posted in the meets section in due course.
The venue has been generously offered by long time friends of SOTP Di & Jax (Thank you ladies) and is located in West Drayton Nottinghamshire, about 1/2 mile from the best launch point on the Idle. See meets section for more details. The film bit will take place on the Saturday night but camping will be available from the Friday until the Monday...........and the dates.........it's the weekend immediately following Halloween (hence the name)
    The 2nd - 5th of November.

So back to the film competition.
    The Rules
    1. You may nominate your own video or one that you like by another member with their permission.
    2. You can nominate one video a day.
    3. The video must be vaguely canoe/paddle/camping related.
    4. Please keep the video's shorter than 10 minutes if possible this is a guide rather than a rigid rule
    5. They must not have been entered in previous SOTP video competitions
    6. They must not be made by professional production companies.
    7. Preferably made during the previous 12 months

And this one is very important.........you must be willing for it to be played in public should it make the final. If you enter a film, permission to play it at the Hallowscreen Doo will be assumed to have been received. You can of course withdraw permission at any time, you are not giving up any rights to your property but if you are unwilling for it to be played at the festival please do not enter.
In addition .......any entry made on face book will be be linked on here. Again if you are not happy with this arrangement please do not enter.

Once the finalists have been selected a dropbox link will be provided so you can get your films to me in the format that best shows off your work.
PS please select a format that works with windows media player or VLC.
There will be prizes but surely the only motivation you need is The Quentin

Real solid gold paint......honestly!!!I'm looking forward to the enjoying the fruits of your labour

This Competition will close to entries in one Month........ on the 12th of August
    Good luck to all!

To fit in with the 10 min rule I submit my day 4 on the Tarn video.
This was a much quieter day with no whitewater antics, but it captures one of my favourite features while paddling on the Tarn, the "Magic Carpet" effect.
In places the river had a glassy smooth calm surface while flowing over gravel beds at about one foot deep. The speed of the conveyer flow was amazing, watching the gravel bottom wooshing past below, with no effort needed to make progress.

Lot of serious concentration on Al's face in the York race vid!

Lot less seriousness over here trying to pull a video together to contribute before the deadline. Need to peddle really fast to get my PC to render video frames. still hope to have a few secs worth. Least I don't have to worry about the 10min duration.

    Should I risk the scorn?

Should I post a sea kayaking video??

Oh! well here goes. Some people call it canoeing.

    I've gone and done it!

If disqualified because of using a sea-kK, then I've only myself to blame.

Hope you enjoy my memories and all the wildlife too.

I thought I'd throw this into the ring from October 2017. It killed my camera, but I think that should be sorted shortly.

You'll notice that some of my entries are different cuts of the same footage. That's deliberate. I think the editing makes or breaks a video therefore two versions of the same material can be completely different.

I don't envy the academy this year, quality seems to have taken a leap.

I'm not allowed out long enough for epic journeys and I don't paddle with cute kids, so here's a local river (for local paddlers) and a bear.

(That was taken by my late mother. So if it won, which it won't, she could be the first posthumous winner of the SOTP video competition.)

Cracking video there Ray, but you are just stretching the ten minute limit by about fifty percent.

A quick last minute entry. I was never happy with the original video of this trip, so I spent today stripping it down. Well, I spent the morning editing and all afternoon and evening trying (and failing) to upload a version that youtube doesn't want to mangle. Sometimes it just takes YT a bit of time to sort things out, so fingers crossed.
