Thread: Hiring in the Lake District

  1. Default Hiring in the Lake District

Evening all, very new to the forum and I hope this thread is posted in the correct area....the whole tribe are off to the Lake District in August....Iíve been doing some research into hiring something suitable for two adults and ten year old twins (we have van and roof bars for transport).....keen to hire for 2-3 days but everywhere seems only interested in the hourly hire scene.....can anyone who has hired in the past help out with recommendations please ? Many thanks

I think you'll struggle. Nichol end marina on Derwent might be worth a ring, they'll certainly hire boats for a day. Don't think many places will let you take boats away with you though. You could always try clubs in the area.

    You could try http://riverdeepmountainhigh.co.uk/

Of the top of my head I don't think they do hire as such, but they're likely to have a good handle on who does.

I’ve hired canoes from http://derwentwatermarina.co.uk/ at Portinscale and https://www.windermerecanoekayak.com/ near the ferry landing on Windermere. I doubt either would let you hire for more than a day at a time.

If you're coming from where your name suggests, Tisos and other Scottish companies do multi-day hire....if you have a roof rack!
Otherwise, others have covered the obvious places.

If you can transport the canoes on your van you can hire for the whole holiday from Tiso or other places before you go.

You can actually get multiday hire. I have no connection and have never used them.
