Default British Canoeing - National Go Canoeing Week 2018

So 26th May to 3rd June is the BC National Canoeing Week (+ a day!) - with the relatively simple idea of clocking up 45,000 miles during that time. As many of us will be out on the water over the period anyway, it seems kinda nice (to me anyway) to contribute to the total.

If peeps do feel similarly inclined, here is a nice handy link to Log your miles

In previous years I registered miles under the Nom-de-paddle of Quentin - So 'Quentin does the Leicester Riverside Festival (SOTP)' - which coincidentally is what will happen this year. - as that seems to be a good bit of fun and free publicity.

Anyway if you do contribute some miles to the 45K, please feel free to also add, when where, who, mile count to this thread .

As seems to be traditional, I will be clocking up kilometres instead of miles again that week!

It mattered last year ... UK miles only ... that might have changed though.

End of first weekend, and less than 2000 miles clocked in from their target of 45000, so think some Quentin help is deffo needed !

They still seem to be binary about gender, I think they need to move with the times. You cannot enter your miles unless you select a gender although you would think if they were being genuinely equitable they would not need to know.

    Nice idea!

Contemplating sticking (in the locking sense) 'yak on car this week, see if there's an evening that not to stuffed by work or rain to jump on the canal for an hour or so - then there should be a few miles from the Paddle in The Park (Sat) and Leics Riverside Festival (Sun) to add .

    Martin,
I was just about to reply tro Adrian Coopers post: ''There is insufficient information to answer this question.' by adding that that's the best ever 'name. rank and number' reply that I've ever come across, absolutely love it!.. and will probably use this one if ever I'm captured alive in any future operations!!

That's once I stop giggling at the title of your post - which had me very much in stitches!

With a very much Creedence Clearwater Revival groove going on here ! (In my mind anyway!)

"There's a bad moon on the rise!..."

    Sorry Jon...
Once again I seem to have digressed somewhat!

"Stay on the road. Keep clear of the moors.......and beware the moon lads!"

Seriously folks there were over 1600 miles paddled at Reading on Sunday - I wonder how many of those will be logged?

I would have logged a few miles but, in the spirit of GDPR, I felt they were attempting to gather too much information from me to justify a mileage count. I was expecting to give my name and mileage. Fortunately they stopped at asking my inside leg measurement.

Very slow 4 miles in 4 hours added: "Quentin Paddles In The Park"

    Poor Strava

From the BC Paddle In The Park at Holm Peirrepont.

Got to have a play on the Silverbirch composite Broadland, also Covert and Rebel plus even more unstrava'd time upright on a SuP - with suitable stops for sarnies and ice cream.

Should be a few more to add tomoz from the Leics Riverside Paddle.

Just checked the total miles, and with one day to go, there are 19,555 miles logged, which is a somewhat shy of the target 45,000.

If you've been out this week, or out today, pls consider adding to the count.

The way I kinda look at it, BC ain't perfect, but they are the sport/hobby/recreation national body, and what I hope it gives BC is a bit more clout/influence - i.e. if they can claim they helped get people out paddling 45,000 miles in a week, then its useful ammo when they're lobbying the politicians et al on our general behalf.

Contributing miles is a fairly minimal and is pretty straight forward. Doing the whole 'Quentin/SOTP ... ' thing is just an optional bit of fun and a small way to promote the forum.

    My 5p's worth anyway.

Thanks for taking part in National Go Canoeing Week. Mile registration is now closed for 2018. We reached a whooping 57,574 miles!!!
    Nice!
