Good point but why do we never get the choice of "English" for nationality on anything? always Scottish, Welsh, Irish, British. It gripes me no end.

Access is an area of legislation which is devolved the the nations - that is how the Scottish Parliament was able legislate for open access in 2003. The Welsh Assembly received the powers to pass access legislation later than Scotland and has yet to do so, although there has been a campaign for legislation similar to the Land Reform (Scotland) Act led by WCA followed by Waters of Wales - WoW. Legislation for England is the responsibility of the Westminster Parliament, and the campaign for open access in England is being led by British Canoeing, "the membership body for England and are responsible for developing the sport within England". Why there is not a Canoe England is another question...

I find it a bit disappointing that only 659 people responded to the online survey. How can we expect success in this campaign if this is the level of interest?

    Hi Sam,
Agreed, I would have expected more replies, most of the paddlers I know responded after I brought it to their attention.
