Cool York canoe race 23rd June

It would be nice to see as many Sotpers there as possible! .......So me and Kaptain Slow (cankay) can beat ya!
    But don't tell Stinkwheel......or Stu.......or Big Al......or Roger......they beat is last year.

In fact the race will be taking place on the 30th June (not really) .......the fix is in Jon we might win

If you start the race on the 23rd, then there's a chance that you might not come last.

Sorry Bren, but my flight is already booked. Roger and I will be there. So that's at least one canoe in front of you again this year.

Beware, Al’s on a training regime with a base in Sw France in the run up to it. It’ll be like Rocky but with canoes. Honest

Ah, but will Al's altitude training on the Tarn (all 400m of it, at river level) out trump your distance training on the Tiber, Bren? Time will tell.

More importantly, its going to be difficult to beat MarkL's supervised Ballast Appreciation Training when it comes to the apres-paddle event.

I can't come this year, I'm on call that weekend. Mrs stinkwheel might be persuaded to pop over though.

I was on the Ouse at the weekend though. We wanted to do some shopping and I'm too tight to pay for parking so I parked at Poppleton, paddled in and moored up at the mouth of the Foss.

Aw man, that's too bad. I was hoping to give you a better run for your money this year. You were the only SotP team worth trying to beat.

Start and finish is at the millennium bridge. 2.5k, 5k and 7.5k races. Great fun. There are a few paddlers camping in the field already.

Remember popping up there last year. Is that another year gone then ?

Good luck for the main event.

A really good day out! Congratulations to Al and Roger, Gary, David, Vince and all who participated. Great to see you again Doug. And well done to Phil Puckrin and his team for putting it all together

Well done all, its becoming a regular event on the canoeing calendar, and I must make it next year. Glad to see SOTP folk getting the top step places on the podium, congrats chaps, couldn't happen to nicer folks.

Bren, I'm just glad you didn't have some further misfortune in luck that stopped you starting the thing! About time you had a better run of fortune.

I've already seen some smugness on Facebook! I'd take the credit for managing the Training Camp so successfully if I were you. I've not yet heard how Al went in the steeplechase event back at camp.

My 1st trip to this event. Alas I really didn't recognise anyone and a couple of open boaters I spoke to weren;t SOTPers. However I did spot Mayobren's car and rather distinctive canoe on the roof. The giveaway it was yours was the 'Mayo' sticker in the window.!

I did the long course as I'd come from Robin Hood's Bay, so I thought I may as well get my moneys worth of paddling time in. I didn't release it was Vince (Which ever pseudonym he is) I was paddling against. A two horse race if ever there was one!

Next time I'll do the medium course - more people, more open boaters and for me it was a strange 'race' - experience, in that once the the kayaking boats etc pulled ahead I saw nothing of the rest of the race or paddlers on the water.

Perhaps an open boaters class would have been more appropriate.

I must say, it was a perfect day on the river.
Many thanks to my team mates Roger and Doug. Roger for paddling with me yet again, and Doug for lending us his fantastic canoe. It was great to finally race in a canoe that was built for speed. And even sweeter when we realised that it used to belong to Mayo Bren
