    David,
I was just halfway up 'the old apples and pears' then, on the way to the land of nod....When I thought, Oh, no! Dave's going to omit the Spam in the onion Bhajis recipe....that's sacrilege!!

Leaving my now smoking slippers (and cherished well-battered Teddy) halfway up and halfway down the staircase I had to rush back down to send this message:

KEEP THE SPAM IN THE RECIPE!

As it's a staple part of any would-be 'canoe-adventurers' on-board supplies, and always most welcome in any emergency situations! (And you'll know when you're in an emergency situation, when you finally realise that you are going to have to pop open that can of Spam just to survive...or maybe, try to push it out for a few more days, and leave that can unopened - it's a game changer! )
Keep yer paddles wet, and powder dry....

Dave, maybe keep some SPAM free (for the veggies you know)
I am carnivorous but consider becoming vegetarian when it comes to spam.

    Sirus (Pete)
Naturally, I assume that you will be tenting this weekend in question in that new super tent of yours......and if so, would there be any chance of you also bringing along your tarp and camping sticks, so that we can knock-up a communal dining area, just in case the weather turns against us... (I was about to say inclement, but that sounds way too posh for me! )

And best now that I probably refrain from using the term 'knock-up' in any future correspondence, so as to keep Ken from getting a little too over excited!

Have just spent the last 2hrs reviewing a Mushroom Curry Jacket Potato option for up to 4....and now very much trying to work out how I'm going to fit it in!

    Will try though!

So, as you can imagine any offer such as yours is more than welcome!

    Thanks Dave!

Looks like we have, Mark :-)

I've been checking the "Jetstream" forecast, we may be catching the southern edge jetstream , but its not looking too bad, at the mo

We will be bringing a few tarps and cooking equipment 9 & 6 Litre dutch oven .

Mark, Do you need any more lamb, as we have some in the freezer, vacuum packed ..... Is there anything that we need to bring, to assist you?

    Frocks are fine

What about banana hammocks? banana hammock world, couldn't see one in tartan, though :-)

We'll be getting there about Midday on friday, i'm working the Thursday (days) so i'll be in my "up at 4:00 hrs phase.

    Simms, (Simon & Karen)
Keep that vacuum packed Lamb on standby for the time being ,as we'll need a little something held back in reserve for any future upcoming paddle-missions.....as they will surely come!

I'm going to 'knock-up' (Steady Ken! ) a large Mushroom Curry tomorrow and freeze most of it in preparation for the weekend in question, with thoughts now already of serving portions of it in a Roasted Jacket Potato.....and then I read a random recipe about Mushrooms with Garlic & Chilli Sauce cooked on skewers over hot coals! - Just got to do that as well!

    So, yes....very much yes!

There is something very much that you could bring along to assist...and it's that 6ltr Dutchy of yours on 180 Degrees C for 1.25hrs with 6 large spuds in it!

    That would help immensely.

Still very much have 'my horns locked in negotiations' with da' management... whilst still trying to get Friday off, with this coming Monday.... being My D Day! ( Whilst also continuing to work on a cunning plan of arriving on the Saturday, sometime after midday (as I'll be working late on Friday) without any reference thereafter to a slug, Blackadder or his manservant Baldrick! .....

    This plan might just work!

We'll bring the lamb, anyway, it can be stored in the electric coolbox, in the car boot.

As said, we're bringing the dutchy's anyway and the new firepan (plus wood & charcoal), so we'll have plenty of cooking area

Jacket tateas are on the list, Sir

The culinary adventures sound like they need a michellin star. I would like to +1 the spam-free bhajis, they are just too good without it!

If there is enough food to go around then please sign 2.5 of us up. If not that's fine, we can sort ourselves out.

Given what you already have sorted I'm not sure I can offer much extra besides peeling duties, some burnin' wood, and/or coinage, but I will gladly give those if it helps.

    Looking forward to this :-)

bound to be a supply post close by.
Yup Co-op - 350 meters (ish) away, up a small rise passed the pub, and turn left at the small roundabout. Past a nice wee coffee and cake shop too :-).

Have Fri pm off work now, so aiming to arriving mid afternoon Fri.

Chance are we (Juliet and I) will grab food at the Boathouse Fri pm (kinda gives a bit of extra kerching to Colin/Pub) - anyone welcome to join us, and deffo a personal choice thing.

Also optional is wood a contribution for evening fires. For those new to Barrow, there is an area for a communal ground fire, oft used for clan gathering, ale supping, merry music making and falling asleep - but it does need feeding.

See you on the water some other time DC, Pete!.

Not 100 % sure I can make it so I'll add me to the maybe list:-
Martin: I'll bring the Grappa, and I've got a bottle of German beer to crack open if you make it!.

We were out on the waters in Leics on Sunday, was a bit shallow and reedy, so if anyone has a sycthe attachment for the front of their boat, then they may need to go up front! on the back-water river sections!.

    Hi All,

Contacted Colin, if anybody arrives before anyone the lock on the gate should be unlocked and just hooked through.

    See you all soon,

    Si & Karen

I've got Friday off so if I can make it I'll be there mid-day onwards Jon - I quaffed all of my Grappa the first week back and the beer went the same day. I'll bring something to burn too!

Arriving late afternoon Fri (pre-rush hour if I get it right).

Definitely happy to eat in the pub Fri night. Chocolate pizzas compulsory for all!

Will bring burny stuff too, as surely Colin will run out of pub chairs otherwise.

What time do you need me to be at the campsite by on Sat AM?
I can't eat spicy food so I'll bring my own kebab, that is if there'll be any space left on the BBQ for it.......
Anything else you'd like me to bring?

Who mentioned the 12 mile loop? That moves from recreational paddling to extreme endurance paddling.
    Is there a "wimps" option?

I like the idea of the loop, as long as its not windy, we have a leisurely start time, and visit the pub on the return leg.

I have a confession to make. As I've already left home on one of my tours, I wasn't thinking properly when packing and I will therefore NOT BE PROPERLY ATTIRED, Sergeant Major. No doubt this means I'll be scrubbing the campsite field with a toothbrush on punishment duty. I can just about muster together khaki, but the headgear will be informal, and the tartan lacking. Probably a good thing, I was starting to worry about the mozzies under the tartan

    Col. Simms,
A dispatch just in now from the provision gathering section, Sah!

Message reads: All required provisions now accounted for, except for the fresh Coriander leaves. Will try again tomorrow in haste, and not Hastings this time!
Scheduled Mushroom Curry on Sunday 17.06.18 - A complete culinary disaster! All Troopers involved that day, quickly taken to local chip shop for curry sauce & counselling!
Replacement Mixed Beans in Spicy Sauce (for 6 Baked Jackets) now locked & loaded!

    Sue Ti:
In advance, I have packed my Extended Handle S/S XXL Frying Pan in preparation for a few Turmeric Spiced Omelette Chapatis for the subsequent Sunday's Brunch.... (As one does!)

So, if during the wee hours of Sunday morning If I feel the need to "Stand-to!" during a possible infiltration of 'a possible nutter' on a mountain bike into our encampment....(I did offer him hot coffee and some warm food and then gave him various directions to the hospital at Nuneaton, where he said he was heading.....aren't we all ! ) If you can help me hold the line, with that pan of yours and a good whack from your paddle, whilst those around sleep safely....

Then I can omit the Turmeric from the omelettes!

( You will however have to put up with the omelette now being served on some well-buttered toast as opposed a decent chipatii, as it should have been!.....) Ken, are still reading this?

    Major Grey Sir!

"Lacking khaki for muster. with informal headgear, and little Tartan to display at an upcoming parade?....This is just sacrement to treason Sir!"

Let's hope now that Col. Simms has not heard of this 'unfortunate situation' Sir. In the meantime I can offer a Glengarry & Picnic Rug to save yer blushes!

But may now not be able to prevent your name and that of one of our best Bengali Lancers... from being posted on an upcoming Field Punishment Detail....

    Sorry lads!

Im coming off a night shift and my body clock will be out of kilter so Ill probably do my normal pre morning rush hour journey on Friday.
I have been trained by kmac in the ways of the chapatti so, in his absence, will gladly fill the gaping void in the menu if required.

    Sorry lads!

    Sgt. Major Bonar Mc B

    Message Ends....

You must be psychic Ken as I can make it and you've already added me to the list - do you have this weeks winning lotto numbers too?

Is there anything else other than some firewood that is needed that I can bring?

Not psychic sadly - just read your post #144 above where you say you will make it.
