Default Bill Mason films for free on your phone

Recently discovered at the national Film board of Canada have an app for your phone or tablet

    NFB film

This lets you access download or stream all of Bill Masons canoeing films and many other interesting canoe and kayak related programmes.

Also works well with Chromecast and the like to get them onto your TV.

The app seems a little easier to navigate than their website.

You can't Chromecast directly from the app but if you cast your entire phone screen using the Google Home app it works fine except that you can't continue to use your phone for something else while you're watching the film.

    Ok. Thanks!
I hope they will put Chromecast link
    directly in the app.

I have seen Mason films some 10 years ago.
    Joy to see them again.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll enjoy that when I get some time.

    Go to Google play
    Search > NFB Films

The NFB Films app requires Android 4.0.3 and above.

App is free and films are free.

You can also purchase the films for a few Canadian Dollars from the national Film board of Canada which I have now done.

As well as letting you keep a copy permanently on your phone I've noticed that the copy that you pay for also includes subtitles

I'm now looking for a free Mac program to extract the subtitles from the video file so I can have a transcript of Bill Masons paddling technique films to look through whilst watching them on the water

Bill Mason Path of the paddle films started my lifelong passion for canoeing about 1988.

I still recommend them to others.

Hi Ewan, the Bill Mason book Path of the Paddle does all that for you.

I have a copy of Path of the Paddle on my book shelf

My thought was the book was not so easy to look at in the canoe and if I could print out a few excerpts of of the transcript for particular skills I wanted to practice it would be easier as I could have them in a larger font with the associated timecode from the video it would be useful
