Blimey. At least he had the decency to have an attack of guilt and own up without being prompted.

I am no great fan of Japan, having been stationed there for three 6-month tours in the late 60's/early 70's, but this stuff is just racist. And please skip the stuff about "just having a laugh" or "lighten up, it's just a joke", ok? Thanks.

I really don't think anyone intended any harm here. I certainly wouldn't think that any Japanese have been harmed in the making of this thread.

Now, general observations, not aimed at anyone personally...

... Isn't it often the case these days, that the 'victims' of what might be perceived as offensiveness, are often the ones who are actually not offended in the slightest?

Too often these days, the bullies are the passive-aggressive minority; the so-called liberals, who appropriate a cause with such a determination to be offended - the conviction that they alone are right and their demands for safe spaces - that the vast majority of us (I would guess) get cheesed off with being bullied into silence, for fear of the mob.

Irrespective of whether you consider something racist or stereotyping; perhaps it is good manners to keep it to yourselves if it has the potential to offend. I think we should all be able to work out what has this potential.

There could be a conversation to be had about the difference between political correctness gone mad and the valid intolerance of racist and sexist language that promotes and prolongs injustice. But a Canoe forum is probably not the place for that and this Canoe forum is definitely not that place. So since this thread passed being about anything remotely on topic a few posts back Iíll just lock it here and let it die.
