Anyone mad enough to try this one, but as a canoe?

there are also other designs, including one which uses closed cell foam as a protective layer under the fabric (built in bouyancy!)

I ran a course for a stag group recently. The final task was for them to make a canoe out of hazel and a tarp. We then drove to the local river Arun for the groom to paddle it 100m. the canoe worked well too high in free board but Pete the groom couldn't paddle so capsized nicely in front of the pub.

I liked this comment from an enthusiastic builder of the PVC kayak.....

"Kayak Paddled like a barge, floated sideways and moved in circles rather than turn"

    Nice!

Mind you, after looking at the building instructions and then at the finished product I couldn't help feeling that it was a bit of a waste of perfectly good PVC tube and a tarp

I am planning to use PVC tubing as the outer gunwhale on my next canoe. Somebody beat me to it!
