    Default OCA Canoefest 2017

OCA Canoefest kicks off at the end of the month. This year it is spread over two weekends.

The first weekend is set at Hay on Wye based at Racquetry Farm from Friday 26th to Monday 29th May. Lots going on with coaching sessions and off the water Bushcraft and lads more. We have also arranged for the Hay Festival to be on at the same time so on and off the water there will be loads to do and see for everyone.

OCA Events Booking is here https://www.opencanoe.info/festivals...canoefest-2017

At the end of the week Canoefest moves to Beale Park Lower Basildon Reading

This part of Canoefest will concentrate on the art of Canadian & Freestyle Canoeing with coaches coming from Europe and across the Atlantic to teach and coach. There will also be Bushcraft and other activities. You will also get entry to the Beale Park show which is a great celebration of traditional wooden boats etc. See here:

    http://www.bealeparkboatandoutdoorshow.co.uk

I will be at both events with the WCHA. We attended Beale Park last year and had a great time; it is a good family show with lots going on both on and off the water. Your OCA admission also gets you into the Beale Park show.

It's half term week so get booked, pack the wife, partner, boyfriend, kids and canoe and come along!

Can't make this one but I have to say last year's Canoefest was fantastic. Although we may see some of you on the water over the first weekend, we'll be at Hereford rowing club for most of the week
    Cheers

That doesn't sound too far away Tim! Perhaps we could squeeze in a pint somewhere?

I might pop up to Beale for the day on the bike, to have a look around.

Yes. The deal with Beale Park is that OCA attendees will get access to the show. OCA will pay a sum per attendee from what they collect. You will be entitled to camp in the OCA designated field. The only extras are your food and beer money!

Moving forwards as well please see this:-

Planning for Canoefest 2018 and Beyond
With Canoefest 2017 very nearly upon us the team are busy putting the finishing touches to this year’s event. Alongside this discussions are already taking place as we also look towards Canoefest 2018 and beyond.

As with any event an immense amount of work goes on behind the scenes both before and during the event itself to ensure its success. Whilst this may sound a little daunting there is a great feeling of pride, satisfaction and comradeship, working as part of the team, as the event is brought together.

Across the OCA membership we have a wealth of knowledge, ideas and expertise and we are keen to draw upon on the enthusiasm, support and expertise of all OCA members with the organisation of Canoefest 2018.

As you are no doubt well aware the key members of the main committee, all volunteers with busy lives, put an immense amount of time and work into the day to day running of the organisation itself and are therefore keen for members to form a Canoefest sub-committee to take on the planning and organisation of our 2018 event. Your help is essential to protect the long term viability Canoefest.

All are welcome to join us at a workshop to discuss Canoefest 2018 which will be held at this year’s Hay on Wye and Beale Park events. If you are unable to join us at the workshop itself, do please get in touch by email or Facebook with your suggestions and offers of assistance to ensure your inclusion at the meeting.

Hi Rob, I will be there with my WCHA hat on. Come and say hello. I will watch you cripple yourself. I know that Pete Stroud is signed up for it too.

    See you there.

    Hay-on-Wye
We should be ready for you to arrive from Friday morning. You are welcome to arrive
Thursday if you’re able to help get things ready. There will be plenty of jobs to do!
Please ensure you arrive via Entrance 3. There are other groups using surrounding areas,
we’d hate you to be joining the wrong group.
On arrival please make your way to reception to book in. Please complete your consent form
and hand to reception (we will have spare copies if you forget). Filling it in beforehand will
speed up the booking in process.
Below are some ideas of the workshops, coaching and trips we’ll be putting on. If there’s
something specific you’d like us to cover that’s not there, please let us know and we’ll do our
best to accommodate you. You will be able to sign up to these when you arrive. Please
remember they are all running subject to water levels, weather and the goodwill of our
    volunteer coaches.
We will have demo boats from most major makes for you to try but we are not providing
boats for you to use on sessions. Please bring boats and paddle kit, poles, sails etc.
The bar will be open in the evenings. We are running this ourselves so drinks will be very
competitively priced (Beer & Cider 2 per pint). Wine and soft drinks will also be available.
We’d appreciate some help with shifts helping behind the scenes, cooking bacon, manning
the bar, cleaning loos etc. If you can help a bit, reception will be able to help.
The loos are of the portable chemical variety. We also have a block of gas powered
showers. We would appreciate you taking your rubbish home with you.

A big "Thank You" to the organisers, and the friendly attendees, of this year's Canoefest. I was a day visitor there for the first weekend of the Fest in Hay and really enjoyed myself. I shall be endeavouring to get my ass along to further OCA events.

    Many thanks...
