Access to the Thames near Faringdon
I know someone has probably asked before but we are looking for a quiet stretch of Thames with easy access for our canoe in the Farringdon area, as we want to take our 5 year olds on the river for the first time and do not want to many large boats buzzing pass.
thanks in advance

You'll find free parking and a safe and easy launch from Abingdon Marina (at the end of Preston Road).
Our first trips tended to be getting the kids used to the boat in the Marina before heading upstream on the Thames to town, turning left up the beautiful Ock.
This is also a great link for finding access points: http://www.paddlepoints.net/PaddlePo...lePointId=1008

Hello and Welcome!
Obvious spot is down the hill at Radcot, talk to the pub about launching/parking. Put in is a little high though, so maybe not ideal.
Easier but further away, would be behind the Rose Revived at Newbridge.
Bablock Hythe is another option (all above are on the Paddle Points map)
The Thames upstream of Oxford is pretty quiet. To be honest, the Thames upstream of about Maidenhead is pretty quiet most of the time, except in Oxford itself! In summer, when the flow is slow, you can just paddle upstream until you've gone as far as you want, then turn back to the start, preferably after a riverside picnic.
