Default Tyne Tour 2016 Nov 5th and 6th

After the shenanikins over the search for a hardy Bowperson that came to naught last year, and morphed into a great time on the river in association with Adrian Cooper, I now have a Trad boat shorter, lighter and just a good on the rough stuff. I hope, therefor, to go again, but to spend Saturday on the South Tyne, avoid the festivities, and do the whole Tyne Tour length on the Sunday. The ticket includes shuttle buses on the North Tyne, but not, I believe on the South.

Any one on for company and shuttle share on Saturday?

Shuttles are/were available last year anyway. I'm hoping to get over again this year, so your OT Cascade might well have a slower green sibling ...

That would be great. Just been on the Wye for a few days, first real test of the degree of WW friendliness of the Cascade, which it passed with flying colours. Some great wave surfing (It and I are quite good at that), and a play on Symonds Yat. I intended to drop you a note of thanks, and here it is!!

It looks like I'm heading that way myself to try out a new 14' ft Apache. Stu says it is designed for the bumpy stuff

Really enjoyed the Sunday run last year with Terry Jefford. I took the Vertige X and scared a few yakers by boofing 14ft of Royalex into the eddie juest below the put in. They scatter quite quickly wil rolyalex raining down on them :-)

Barleyafloat and Jamatrad Do we have the beginnings of a plan?. I would be delighted to paddle south on Sat and North on Sun with you both, using the official shuttles if they go south as well

That would be great Peter. Just trying to work out; guest house or tent.
Mind you we could corral an SOTP area.

Got a better tent which I aim to try for the Broads Meet, taller, like yours in that respect, but I'm leaning toward B&B. Anyway Gwyn may be coming as part of a NE get away, and she doesn't do tents!

How are your plans coming along Peter?

I have been making some of my own:
Tyne Descent Race Saturday (Barrasford - Hexham)
Tyne Classic WWR Sunday (Wark - Barrasford)

I'll be racing K1 but will maybe flash (I wish) past you on the river on the Sunday. I'm thinking about taking another boat, but I'll probably be quite tired after each race and might not paddle again that day, but should probably try to stay in touch just in case.

A friend of mine is involved with Battlesteads observatory (Wark) so instead of camping and going to the Celidh I have booked an evening course in Aurora hunting for the Saturday and B&B at the Battlesteads hotel (not low budget, but what the hey). The Friday night is supposed to be a good one for shooting stars (based on geometry rather than weather) so I might also book up for a session Friday night too.

    How hard can it be?

I've paid my money, but not managed to email the completed form. Plan to BNB it, still South Tyne sat, North Sunday, wondering about racing on Sunday. Won't be going to the hop, but might be on for the odd pint somewhere on Fri or Sat evening

Right, booked into pub at Wark, made a slightly tongue in cheek entry for Sundays race. As I am to visit the old on either the way up or down, I arrive Friday evening, depart Mon morning. Still paddle South on Sat, yes there seem to be shuttles for both rivers both days.

Jim we may at least get a pint sometime/

Excellent, I will no doubt see you on one of the evenings, otherwise at the start line if you don't have second thoughts.

I have just booked B&B south of Hexham so hope to join you all over the weekend if that's OK. Pete, I will be at December House where we stayed last time. Not too dear and very comfy if a little out of the town.

OK gents, I can't imagine there being much water in the S. Tyne at all, so my interest is in the N Tyne on Saturday.

    What is everybody doing ?

I still might do my own thing ......

I guess you are right. Like Jammy I'll see what they say on Friday, but otherwise, a suitable time at the North Tyne upper put in??

Not me. I'll be far later than that. Might go and look at the Wall however.

I've entered the races both days so predicting where I will be should be easy enough, but it probably won't tally with other people's plans.

Still wondering about taking my Option as well as my WWR, it looks like there will be plenty of you about to try to meet up with, but will I have enough energy to race and have a cruise?

Well, it wasn't looking good for a few days there, but plans are back on, not that I really ever have a plan.

I'll be on the North Tyne on Saturday, if others are going to be there and there's a rough time people are aiming to be at Barrasford I'll see what I can do, but I'm notoriously unreliable, so I'll probably do my usual thing of being there when I get there and joining up with whoever I meet along the way.

Be good to catch up with you John - my cunning plan is to leave Wark pretty sharpish, and make a fairly slow descent.

Hope our paths cross at some stage ...

Tent up, curry underway and a glass ready to be poured
Busy camp site and yet to bump in to any SOTP members

    Meeting some at Wark @ 9 30 for a full day's paddle

Well, I'm leaving from Barrasford at 11 (rapidly, at least that's the intention), but since I have to get from Wark to Barrasford, I may come down and see you all off first

    How hard can it be?
