    Default Adventure to Fowley Island

    Happy New Year, paddling brethren!

Andre and myself are planning an adventure to Fowley Island in the Swale channel down here in the garden of England and would love it if you could grace the waters with your presence.

We aim to leave Oare nature reserve around 9am and land on Fowley island for high tide which is at 11, we'll take tea on the island and I'll provide some homemade fruit cake, then we'll paddle back.

Seals are common on this stretch so expect a few sightings.

This adventure is of course dependent on weather, we've planned ahead to give everyone plenty of notice.

Would you care to join us?

Would this be the 7th February as hinted at here?
Am definitely interested and will go and consult to see if I can get the car for the day.
    All the best,

Looks good ,Adam . LAUNCH at 9am on Sunday , 7th February 2016 from Harty Ferry (hopefully the twitchers would not have nicked all the parking by then.). A taste of the promised cake before the launch might be a good idea...... Be good to see all the familiar faces and some new one's too.

I'm up for this, haven't been covered in sticky tidal mud for ages

Lynn if your not up to solo paddling you can have the front seat in my boat.

    cheers

    Hi,
The weather forecasts are looking quite blowy for the 7th. About a force 4, possibly gusting higher. Looks reasonably sunny though.

Any thoughts on whether this will go ahead? (I haven't managed to get out in the canoe for months!)

Force 5 ,gusting Force 7 ... Hopefully the forecast is wrong ..... I reckon we have to make a decision the day before . F4 gusting F5 is bad enough ,but paddleable .

It looks as if I might now be free on Sunday. But I'll have to see how the wind is (presumably it's the end of storm Henry)

    Greetings brethren,

Forecast for Sunday is less than impressive especially as I'm bringing a couple of people fairly new to paddling.

I'd respectfully request we change location to Tonbridge, meet at the car park behind the castle and explore down to the Leigh Barrier and back through the town.

It's quite scenic, reminds me of Canterbury...

Let me know what you guys would like to do?

    Cheers

    Admiral

paddled down from Tonbridge last weekend, and there was a very strong flow... Maybe hard work going upstream, especially for new paddlers.

Probably a wise decision ,Admiral . I'll be wimping out ,unfortunately (as explained in FB pm). Don't think I'll put in on the sea either ,given the wind and direction (could blow one all the way to Essex ( )

Disappointing the weather's not playing ball. I've no doubt that's a wise call in the circumstances, though. Hopefully we can manage Fowey Island another time.
I'm sorry I won't be joining you on the Medway from Tonbridge (as it is a great river). I hope I can join you another day--or persuade you to visit Essex/Suffolk/Cambridge some day. (Though probably best to travel via the tunnel & bridge rather than get blown across the estuary by mistake, Andre.)
    :-)
    All the best,
    Ian
