In the South East region we are celebrating this event byencouraging clubs and paddlers to come for a paddle on the River Medway inKent. The River Medway is an exemplar of how the Environment Agency have workedin partnership with British Canoeing to benefit paddlers.
If you paddle on the River Medway you will have seen thevarious combined canoe and fish passes that have been built over a number ofyears that have made portaging so much easier and provide connectivity for fishmigration. High quality canoe trails have been produced and in 2014 the EAapproached the SE Regional Development Team (RDT) with a request for financialsupport to build a toilet and shower block at Yalding. Both the RDT SE regionand British Canoeing have provided financial support for this project and weare delighted to announce that this project is now completed.
Paddlers have already undertaken environmental projects suchas river clean ups on the Medway and we look forward in the future to workingwith the EA and with the SE Rivers Trust.
So come and have a paddle on this fantastic touring river(you plan your own paddle), pop into Yalding and see the new toilet/showerblock. (you can use it too). The SE RDT will have a stand at Yalding withinformation on check, clean, dry (posters and boat stickers, and goodenvironmental practice), environmental projects and how you can get involvedalong with information on non-native invasive species.
Look forward to seeing you on the 27th. Donít forget to carry your membership cardwith you.
