Default 2nd attempt SPEY or DEE 25/26/27 March

    March 25/26/27 2006

Who is up for the Spey (or Dee if we have lots of water)?.

Spey, same basic arrangements as last time, need 3 days.

The Dee should be quicker, might manage it in 2 if we don't mess about, but there are sections of 2/3 or 3(?) on the Dee. Start Braemar early Sat am. The Dee needs more water, which we could get if there is a high level thaw of all this snow. Last time I did the Dee there was ice mixed in with the water!

Maybe leave the choice of river until a few days before so that we can assess levels.

right, the Dee it is, 'cos Ralph is sick of doing the Spey (okay for some eh?)

Anybody else, or am I going to have to invite some kayakers?

    Default Grade III

    Yup

The Dee has some grade III but not much.

Paddled it with friend Dave (above) from Linn of Dee - giant fences across the river at the Queen's Hoose area - down to Aberdeen. It took us 3 days, but it was lowish levels.

Sorry, can't make it either. Mothers days and all that, along with skiable snow (XC) on the hills.

I know what you mean about that snow. Having sold off my telemark gear I'm hoping that it will all melt by the w/e so that there is some water in the Dee.

I have dispatched Ralph to Braemar to check out the levels for me. (Well, actually he is going sking for 2 days and I suggested he check out the river, and if too low he could save me a trip, or maybe I could go up and hire some planks!)

We've had 21/2 inches of snow so far this evening. I'm still acumulating skiing gear in the hope of still getting out X-country a bit more this year .
Could be a chilli weekend, but hopefully with more water in the rivers .

Default Well, that's it then, I'm having a tantrum

My advanced party has inspected the first 50km of river and says you couldn't float a football down it.

    Plan C.

Ah a ! A cunning plan. Which could be thwarted if the top loch is frozen, or if I can't get a second portage trolley for Ralph.

I'll report in Blogg next week.
