Default 'SOLD' notifications in Members Classifieds

Just a suggestion... when an item in Members Classifieds is sold, I wonder if the seller might edit the original/first post, starting with the word SOLD

Enjoyable as the banter is, it's a bit of a pain when - after searching through 65 posts - you find that the item is no longer for sale.

It would be good if it could be done, better if the title could be edited, but I don't know if the forum allows it.

My understanding is, you can edit your own posts up to about an hour after you post them, but then they become fixed. The reason being, if "edit" is infinite, you get people replying to text which later changes or vanishes, making the thread hard to understand. I don't know if the "classifieds" section can have different rules.

As Mary says, you can't actually edit your posts after an hour has passed. I guess the ideal would indeed be to edit the title, but you can't do that at all, and it would be too much workload to ask the moderators to change it.

However, the guidelines state that folk should always add a post to say that the item is now sold. Most do, but occasionally people forget, or haven't checked the guidelines.

It did occur to me that there might be a time limit on editing posts (makes sense). Would be good if you could simply ADD the word SOLD, without otherwise being able to edit the post... Admin? Probably too complicated, in which case do as my wife does, ignore me.

True, but they tend to continue long after the item has sold...

    - SOLD... thanks everyone
    - You'll regret it - I wish I'd never sold mine
    - Well you know how it is, she/he who must be obeyed said I had too many...
    - I hope it's gone to a good home...
    - Took the XXX for a paddle today and love it...
    - You're welcome, a pleasure to meet you...
    - Jammy begger - that was a bargain...

    You get the idea....

Anyway, it was only a suggestion. There are other things to worry about!

There is an option, somewhere I think where prefixes can be added to the threads like, For Sale, Sold, Under Offer etc but I guarantee you that these would mostly not be updated by sellers leading to the same confusion as you currently have
