    Default Searching three letter words

    Hi guys,
Just wondering why the search feature just ignores any words that are three letters or less? I suppose it to avoid words like 'the', 'and' etc being included as search criteria but is slightly annoying. For example I tried to search to see if there were any posts about the River Exe (my local river), also my new boat is a Hou... both searches we useless as the key words were only three letters. Surely a better idea would be to have a 'black list' of words to be excluded from search criteria rather than a blanket ban on anything less than four letters?

Or is this hard-coded into the software the forums run on?

Hope I'm not being a pain,
    Alex

Dunno the reasons, but suspect you're close with your reasoning. It is a pain, but one thing you can do is use quotation marks: "River Exe" "Hou Canoes" and so on. The latter brings up a shortish list, the former brings up this thread!

Another option if you want to search for specific phrases or shorter words is to do a website specific search via google (by following your search terms with site:songofthepaddle.co.uk ).

For example, if searching for the words "yes no"... http://www.google.co.uk/#q=yes+no+si...hepaddle.co.uk

It is sort of hard wired into the forum software. You can change it but the problem is it hugely increases the search database and really slows up searches. It may even impact on the general forum performance as the server has to index all posts as they are submitted.

I think a * can be used to artificially lengthen a word for a search.

    e.g. exe*
