    Default Allier Campsites

    Hi

Trying to find campsites from Brioude down stream, and struggling a wee bit!

    One about soon after Brioude

    and one 20 - 30 k from Brioude!

Its for a Gold DofE group so needs to be near the water!?!

And if anybody has done the 'chicken run' around Brioude recently any information would be appreciated!

    Thanks

    Rory

There's a campsite in Brassac-les-Mines, in Nonette, and then one in Issoire (la Grange Fort). Both are close to the water. Issoire is a nice campsite around a small castle, but more expensive and on the top of a small hill.

We're going to paddle the Allier in June. A few years ago we passed the weir by going through the small channel and then turn right to the slalom track. If anybody has done that more recently I also would like to know if that route is still accessible.

There is also a municipal site in Brassac les mines close to the river (few hundred yards), for Brioude I didn't do the chicken run, the portage on the left is very easy less than 50 yards and a welcome wander on the land and if youve got lots of bods to move the gear wouldn't be a problem. For Issoire there is a campsite further up river from the Fort called le grand mas its a municipal site it is back from the bank (200 yds) you have to walk around the side of a small fishing lake the landing is easily missed, do a recce on all your landing points so you know where to get out as the river has alot of foliage and higher banks going through the towns so landings are easily missed dont guess! You will all have a great time, one tip after Brioude youll go through a maze of islands stay left where you can.

A couple of videos of my trip on the stretch between Langeac and Cournon. Give you an idea of the river, flow, weirs and obstacles.
