I was out last week on a lake that had some ice on it. We cut a path through 5 or 6 mm thick ice with the edge of the paddles. Seemed like a good thing to do at the time. Unfortunately the ice cut the through the varnish and chewed up the paddle edges.

The Bending Branches Expedition plus paddle has a plastic edge that protects the wood. Has anyone used this paddle? What is it like?
