    Hi,

Are you talking about Derwentwater lake itself, or the river Derwent, Middle section (Derwentwater to Bassenthwaite Lake)

The lake is fine, no access problems.

The river has an access agreement, details here: http://www.paddleguide.org/downloads/gretaaccess.pdf

Paddling through onto Bassenthwaite Lake also means a lake permit will be required I think, certainly you enter via the "no boating zone" http://www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/bass_...nal_page_2.pdf Common sense should mean no problems, give them a call on the number given for permits.

    Hope this helps

So, does one require any form of licence to use Derwent Water (the lake bit)?

Is a BCU/CanoeEngland membership sufficient or overkill?

No licence required to paddle the lake - just car park charges for car parks.
