The question was whats everyone happy to do? smarty pants! I fancy doing upper & lower derwent but happy to move days depending on others wishes, although upper derwent on Satdy is preferable so we can spill out into the lake meet? I'm not thoughtfull just indecisive plus i'm sort of trying to marathon everything into the weekend. I'll probably get ratted on Friday night and sleep in till Sunday afternoon

Amelia has put so much time and effort into organizing this meet that I feel we should ALL give her the courtesy of paddling with her on at least one day!
I will paddle Derwentwater on Saturday, the only reason I am not going to Ullswater is that I am too lazy and to paddle such a big stretch of open water in potentially very windy conditions.

So I will have a leisurely paddle down the Mid Derwent on Sunday.

It should be noted that if you intend to paddle into Bassenthwaite lake you need a permit obtainable from the Tourist information in Keswick.
The permit is to support the upkeep of the nature reserve through which you will paddle as you enter bassenthwaite lake. There are also restrictions on landing in the nature reserve.
Both the upper and mid Derwent have Rapids grade2-3 for the upper and grade 1-2 for the Mid some of the Rapids would be very difficult to get out and inspect. So be sure you are confident that you can deal with the conditions you may encounter before planning to run one of the river sections. The notes below are copied from the Access agreement and there will still be overwintering birds on Bassenthwaite

    River Derwent above Derwentwater.
Grade II. 8 km from Mountain View to Derwentwater.

At a very high level access at Mountain View (NGR NY 250137) or even Seathwaite (ask permission at the farm). There is a grade II+ rapid by the Longthwaite Youth Hostel

    River Derwent below Derwentwater.
Grade II. 7km to Bassenthwaite Lake.

The river below Low Stock Bridge and the SW end of Bassenthwaite Lake is a Nature Reserve and officially a no-boating zone. Canoeists are requested not to pass through, especially during the nesting season (April-June) and while birds are wintering on the lake (December to February). If passing through, go straight out from the river mouth to the buoy.

    Lightbulb Sunday: Derwentwater to Bassenthwaite

Planning to do the Saturday on DW.

Sunday as per title (DW to BW).

I'll be a bit rude, since I have not met any of you. I propose that those going from DW to BW meet at the same carpark, as we are planning to meet on Saturday, about 10:00? We can arrange shuttles etc. Permits; shall we get our own or one of us can get all of them?

Just a little preparation beforehand will save some confusion and time...

Of course I am open to suggestions... kind ones though
