Yeh I have to work this weekend as well But how about Sunday 21. Mike B was thinking about the yorkshire derwent. But I would like to do the section of the Wharfe that Troughing Doormouse and I did on our 4* course. Bolton bridge to Ilkley well thats if all the rivers are back between the banks by then!
I Started out with nothing! and i still have most of it left.

    Default weekend paddle

    Hi andy

I'm new to the site and a relatively inexperienced paddler, but if the Wharfe is behaving and you were thinking of coming up this way I'd love to join you. So far I've done a bit around Ilkley (been too to try under 3 arch bridge so far!) and have been looking at the paddle from Bolton Bridge.

Wifey might be keen to come too.

The river has dropped quite a lot today, exposing the pebble bar on the inside of the suspension bridge curve in ilkley, so if the weather behaves it could be good.

    Cheers

love to come but got college work to do.

21st sounds good - however, I've not done any moving water canoeing, put I'm up for a bit of "in at the deep end" (no pun intended) coaching.

Well in far a penny and all that.

dont know the warfe and have only paddled g2 in an open boat (done more in a kayak years ago) so i would be happier if someone with a bit more experience /knowledge were to be there

    Default Wharfe

The Wharfe appears overnight to have turned back into a huge brown monster straining at its banks to get out, so I think I would be out of my league anyway.

I do appreciate your honesty, however. Sometimes saying no is a difficult thing to do, and that was tactfully put!

have a good trip this weekend.

    you misunderstand me
what i meant was that i would like someone with more white water experience and knowledge to lead ME and you down the river
im not knocking you experience, im knocking mine
by the sound of it it looks like a no go anyway

    Default HI Andy

    Hi Andy

Sounds like you are on just as steep a learning curve as Tina & I! And it looked so easy in the book...

Yes, the Wharfe is still pretty full and its blowing up another storm up on this Yorkshire hill so I'll have to content myself with more fettling the boat this weekend. Or maybe even go for a walk somewhere...

That jolly kind fellow Merlin has offered us some free coaching next weekend. Perhaps you should get in touch with him?

Will you be at the Lakes meet? It sounds like it is going to be a great weekend

I am not a coach, but am fairly confident up to easy grade 3 and have my 4* and CST so could be extra safety cover for a training session.

Mike B, BB Dave and myself were all thinking of doing the Derwent from Stamford Bridge To Elvington. Its fairly sheltered from most of the wind and not too scary if its high. But it can get very muddy.

May not be able to do the chat-room as I am on call but will be there if I can.

Should be OK. Not too fast No hazards unless there is a tree down. No Real river features either but quite good for getting a feel for how a bit of current can affect the boat. MikeB did it as his first river trip and his first time out in his prospector.

When we ran the Derwent it was quite high but not as high as it's been in recent weeks it is well overhung with trees and there was a tree down almost right across the river.

So I would be inclined to assume that there may be more, also quite a lot of debris has been washed down and is caught up on the strainers.Mike B...

Remember it well. Very red faced man paddling upstream.

The car park by the river in Stamford bridge would be a good place to meet.
Parking at Elvington is a bit restricted. The other option would be the Wharfe Bolton bridge to Ilkley the Section that Troughing Dormouse and I did it is faster flowing and will probably be cleaner and is a much nicer river than the Derwent which can become a bit clogged up with Debris.
