Default Hi from cumbria, I've just made my own boat.

Hi all, I've just found this web suite after making an open boat on a 4 day course in Borrowdale. My wife and I have had a phirana lake traveller for 20 years and have used it for white water trips (such as the mike jones weekend) before kids and then as a family boat for trips on the lakes with friends. before I was married I did a lot of kyaking but I prefer open canadian canoeing now.

For my 50th birthday this year my wife, Cathy bought me a 4 day canoe building course in Borrowdale which I finished 3 weeks ago and I'm really pleased with the result. I'll be using both boats at the Ullswater weekend on 11th and 12th Sept.

I'm really interested in maiking my own paddles now to go with the boat and would appreciate any tips on where to find plans and whether they need to be laminated or not.

I'll be the one with two red headded sons at the weekend.

    Pete

    Default Welcome

Good to have another, who handy with some 15cm nails and really big pot of glue.

I presume you're still living in S. I did enjoy that ab off the pine end of your previous abode. Odd about your age, I always remember you being somewhat younger than me. (See, the memory is going already.)

    Default Paddles - Some info

    Hello Peter,

Four days building a canoe, so you didn't fancy rushing round in the dark, blasting people with guns. My how you've mellowed. Having said that, I can see the appeal of the canoe building. Got any photos of the finished product?

    But back to the info.

    Sizing paddles thread from 'Lloyd'.
    Making an ottertail paddle thread.
    Another making paddles thread.
And a link here for making your own paddles.
And a link to Moosehead Paddles , including a guide to making your own.

    Hope this helps.

PM sent or will be in a few days. No point in giving the game away, before you've had time to ponder.

Have a gander through this, it explains the whole deal.
