    Default Hi from Saltburn

Just found this site while trying to decide whether or not to buy a Sevylor Canyon, (I already have a Sevylor Sea blade and am very impressed with it, but decided a canyon might have more possibilities in colder weather
So far I have no experience other than around Ledaig in Scotland and around Anglesey so am a very amature amature
What I'd like to know is where is there inland from where I live any idea anyone? until if I get to know my canoes and my own capabilities I'd rather have water with sides if you know what I mean
Hope someone can suggest somewhere (or its a long peice of string of Saltburn beach)
    Cheers

    Hi and welcome Jan.

Try the Tees upstream from Stockton....

Some nice paddling over that way.

Here comes the future and you can't run from it
If you've got a blacklist I want to be on it

    Default Hi

    Thanks for the welcome
I was born in Stockton (someone had to be didn't they) I remember the Tees as it was with the docks etc, can you give me a better idea where to access the river? (I have visions of it melting the bottom of my gnu) although I can see its 150 times better than it was.
I nearly had my maiden voyage today at Saltburn but decided it would be prudent to wait until it was quieter (the sea and less folk there) before being upscuttled I will get out soon I'm determined to
    Cheers

I know, Jan. I had visions of rivers of fire and chemical soup as well, but it's not that bad these days.

We put in just upstream from the Tees Barrage. There's a car park and a slipway on the south bank of the river there.

Starts off fairly industrial, but gets nicer as you head deeper into the countryside...

Lovely pics, it will take me quite a while to pluck up courage (and knowledge) to venture that far but at least the Tees has sides which is more than the sea does, my next question is do you have to be a member of anything to use the slipway? or pay anyone?
The river looks quite inviting in your pics, I'm trying to persuade my hubby to go with me but he isn't taking the bait so far
    Thanks a lot

Hello Banjan and welcome to SotP.

I spent a very happy year living in Saltburn for my University work placement (ICI Wilton).
What a year, paid job, no council tax and part of a converted mansion to live in!

It was like that when I got here...

No, you don't have to be a member of anything.

And you don't have to pay anything or anyone.

    Just go for it!

    Have fun.

Hope you get on the water soon
What about coming up to Woodhorn this weekend and joining some of us for a pootle around the lake there? It's got sides and you'll have company.
