The song of the paddle is a very good book for wilderness camping! But "The Path of the Paddle" Is a much better book for information on strokes and techniques.

    Default song/path of the paddel

I basically learned to paddle a canadian by reading path of the paddle and then going out and practising the strokes on flat water whilst my son did his kayak 1 star. I've had no formal instruction but after 3 years paddle regularly on grade 2/3 water both solo and tandem. I know that a lot of the strokes that I use regularly and would consider myself proficient in are 3 star sylabus stuff (although I have not taken any of the star tests).

Yes, the book is worth buying - I borrowed it from my local library so I only had access to it for a few weeks.
