    Default Yorksire Sat 12 August

    Hello all
Is anyone planning a paddle in the Yorkshire area this Saturday?
I am open to sugestions Maybe a Pugneys skill sharing fun day or a sight seing flat water paddle through York on the Ouse, upstream from Bishopthorpe no shuttle there and back trip.
I Started out with nothing! and i still have most of it left.

    Default thats a maybe..

    Hi David,

I was thinking of going to the lakes, but if there is a meet nearer home that would be great. I am up for either a Pugneys or river trip. Not sure what the wind will be doing - the met forecast suggested it will still be blowing saturday.

We could do the Derwent again. Stamford bridge to Elvington section.

Or a trip I have not done Ripon to Boroughbridge
The other option i was considering was to go to Matlock and practice WW skills. The river at the moment is quite gentle so the results of any mistake should not be too drastic.

    Default saturday

would prefer to do something other than the derwent again
having said that its your call.
i dont know the rivers or the access points and have not bought any guides yet
i do know slengingford mill north of ripon is a good access point with cafe campsite etc and very canoe friendly but i dont know what the water level will be like at this time of year? might even consider camping and making a two days of it!
also like both your suggestions ie ripon down or matlock. both would be new to me
over to you, the decision is yours

went up last sunday didnt even take the boat off the car, even the ducks were only wading!

If anybody else is up for it Matlock would seem a good bet in view of the weather forcast.
Meet at the pay and display carpark known as artists corner and paddle pole track and line the Rapids. For safety reasons I will only go if Ihave some company so I will check and post here at 08:30 on Saturday Morning.

The access point is from Artist's Corner. Travelling from Matlock towards Derby on the A6 you will go under a bridge and then spot a pub on your right (The Boat, good pub!). After this you will spot a big car park on the left (GR. 296595). The river runs along the back of this car park, steps lead from the car park to the river. The final access point, the slalom course, is further along the same road,

As its only going to be play time how does 13:00 sound

Just remembered this car park has a height restricting so we may have to park on the road to unload.

    Default Strong wind stops play

Due to the very gusty wind conditions. Andy and I have decided that paddling would be to taxing to be fun.
Not to mention the hazards of loading boats and driving.

Still if we get the forcast rain Sleningford may be possible next weekend. http://www.ukparks.co.uk/sleningford/

    Default today

i thought it was summer not autumn . didnt really fancing driving a high sided vehicle in strong winds down the M1, let alone trying to my boat on the top of it.
    sensible decision david.
hope next weekend proves more fruitful
what about the rest of you in the yorkshire area? i'd like to meet some other open boaters and see if you can meet the low standards i keep setting myself

Default hope to see you next week

I should be good for next week end, as it turned out I did not escape until gone 2pm today - so would not have been able to make Matlock.

lets hope for some rain this week and a return to summer by the weekend

Jim and I would have been up for the Ouse, but we only got back from Europe on the 14th - we paddled the Derwent on Tuesday afternoon from Elvington to Kexby and back which was nice and want to do a bit more this week before we go to Cornwall.

Let us know if you want to do anything - Wharfe, Ouse - I also fancy the river Hull south from Driffield towards Beverley, which looked great from a bike.

    Everyone welcome!

    regards

    Andrew

thanks Andy - sorry to get you all excited, but we're now going to Cornwall on Thur morning and I don't think there'll be time - I'll arrange something up here early September if you fancy the trip up - your neck should be solid by then also.

    regards
