    Default New Firebox

With all this renewed interest in fireboxes I thought i'd better post an update.

Please have a look at the thread "Shiny new toy"

220w x 370l x 160h mm external when built so easily big enough for a couple of pans, I had 3 on it today.

At the moment the firebox as shown in the posts above made from 1.5mm stainless is going to cost 57 + postage.

I plan on making them from 1.2mm stainless to get the weight down a little and that would knock about 3 off the cost, but i'd like to test one out at that thickness first before taking any orders for the thinner one.

If I can get a few orders together I can get the cost down again, so if I get 6 or 7 orders together we could be looking at 52 each.

At these prices it wont come with a fancy pouch (my sewing isn't that great) but will be delivered in a small, strong bag to keep all the bits together. It will however come with a stainless steel hook for dunking it in the water or moving it around (I'm fed up with seeing Rockhopper faffing about with a pair of pliers).

I will of course be making a donation of 2 for each one sold to the running of this forum.

A top plate for kelly kettles etc will be coming very soon.

Best prices and postage to follow ASAP.

    Just a minor update,

The weight of the firebox in 1.5mm will be approx 3.8kg and in 1.2mm will be approx 3kg.

This means that the postage using Royal Mail is going to be 7.62 for the 1.2mm and may be upto 10.34 for the 1.5mm by the time it's packed in a box.

Has anyone got any suggestions for a cheaper way of sending them?

Update: I've just got a price of 6 from a courier which sounds alot better.

I need something so am looking for advice - this firebox or folding fire from flea-bay. What are the pros / cons of either approach ?

    Thanks

I'm not the best person to answer that really, of course i'm going to tell you that mine is far superior . So i'll leave it open to others to comment on the differences.

All I can say is that I can stand on mine when it's built up and would happily drive my Landrover over it when it's flat packed. Mine will have a top plate available separately (prices soon) for kelly kettles etc. and spares will be available should you loose a bit.

From the looks of it, it's looks like thin gauge stainless steel, so it will warp.... Jon's firebox is a sturdy build and more likely to survive the riggers of use....

The only way to find out is buy and try.

    Latest update,

Prices for the firebox are as follows,
    1.5mm stainless - 60 each
1.5mm stainless - 53 each (I need a minimum of 5 orders to offer them at this price)
    1.2mm stainless - 56 each
    1.2mm stainless - 51 each (minimum of 5 orders)
All prices are + 6 postage (using "My Hermes" couriers)

For the first batch i'm looking at offering them in 1.5mm only unless there is more demand for the 1.2mm ones.

They will cost 53 each + 6 postage (using "My Hermes" couriers), but I need to get at least 5 confirmed orders to offer them at that price.

I've drawn up the top plate and i'm waiting for prices back from the laser cutters.

Oh sod it, I'll take a 1.5mm one as I don't mind the extra weight (versus longevity)

Latest update - Top plate price

The price for a top plate in 1.5mm for the firebox will be 14.00

If ordered at the same time as a firebox the postage should still be 6 (firebox and top), if ordered on it's own the postage will be 4.

    Just a quick update,

I should have the fireboxes back from the laser cutters on Tuesday or Wednesday next week and i'm hoping to get them shipped the day after.

I'm still waiting for 3 payments to come in and i'd like to get them all shipped off next week, payment details have been PM'd to everyone.

If anyone else wants to order one at this point then they will be at the higher prices, unless you are happy to wait until I can get a minimum of five orders together so we can get the lower prices again.

    Default We have fireboxes

    They're here at last.

I've just spent the last hour and a half peeling the plastic film of the stainless and checking all the pieces.

The burn't one is mine, that's the others will look like soon,

Packed up and ready to go,

I hope to get the couriers to pick them up tomorrow and they should be with everyone shortly.

I'm liking the look of these but i have also been thinking about a tent stove.
Would it be possible, with a little adaptation, this could be multy funcional? I'm think removable door, flue adapter and legs. Obviously the cost would probably double but from what i've seen so far from other stoves the fact that this is stainless is a big bonus.
The only thing that i'm not sure about is the small gaps in the slots, would a chimney take all the fumes away and the slots just work to add air into the fire?
    Something to consider maybe?

Mine arrived today after so issues with the delivery guy not finding the house but being able to leave a card to say no-one was in....

Really impressed with my new jigsaw - very well made and easy to assemble. Just need to get out & set it on fire.

    Just another quick update,

It looks like I will be getting another batch of fireboxes and top plates made up over the next week or so, I will be paying for these upfront so that I have a limited number in stock and can offer them at the lower price.

Unfortunately I will be increasing the postage to 8 on these as I made a loss on the postage last time.

So if you are thinking of ordering one then please PM me or make your interest known on this thread and i'll PM you with the details.

    Thanks again,
    Jon.

I can see how it all fits together with the tabs, but what holds them in place?
The Youkon has pins through holes drilled in the tabs, but I can't see how this would stay together, am I missing something?

The tabs are quite deep so hold everything together quite securely, I wanted to stay away from small parts that could easily be lost on the ground.
I will be taking my firebox to the big meet and if any of the current batch are still available I will take them as well so people can have a play with them.

    Latest update,

    Stock is now down to
2x fireboxes without top plate. If any one wants a top plate with one of those I can probably get the top plates made in about 10 days. If both of those go in the next few days then I will try and get another few made up over the next couple of weeks.

I only have 2x fireboxes without top plate available at the moment but as soon as I get back from the big meet at Bala I will be getting a couple of top plates made (and maybe a few more fireboxes) so I should have some available within a couple of weeks.

Matt, sorry I missed the PM (have just found it ), just sent you a PM the payment details.

I should be getting the new batch from the laser cutters tomorrow or Wednesday and will have them ready to send out on Thursday or Friday.
