    Default Trip to Scotland....

    Hi,

I'm thinking of a trip to Scotland but I'm uncertain of the areas that can be freely accessed (are there any at all!!?) etc.

Are you able, for instance, to canoe a lock and camp on shore?

Or just disappear into some woods?

    All advice welcome.

    Thanks,

    Phil

In general terms, you can pretty much paddle where you please, so long as you are responsible, safe and respect peoples privacy, property and livelihood.

For a guide to what is responsible, have a look at the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and The Paddlers Code , they're available, along with lots of other useful information, on the access section of the SCA website:

    http://www.canoescotland.com/Default.aspx?tabid=126

We (the SCA) are currently updating our wild camping leaflet, but the MCoS has some useful advice:

Hope this all helps, have a great trip

p.s. if folks think an access section or FAQ would be useful, I'd be happy to help put together the Scottish page.

p.p.s. it's 'loch' and rhymes with... well I can't think of an English word it rhymes wih, but it's a soft sound at the end as if you're hissing from the back of your throat. Have a great trip.
