    Yes gloss is fine as long as your canoe doesn't spent all year in the water
    Unlike boats canoes tend to dry off on roof racks so as long as the gloss is exterior grade it'll be fine

    Scanoe modifications

    I'm guessing you could move them an inch or two in direction if you really needed to. But as said above they are needed to make the canoe rigid and so it doesn't fold in half. Lol
